A baptism question for Morbidzbaby (and the rest of ya'll).....
by Mr. Falcon ini read morbidzbaby's comment on the post http://www2.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/206838/1/a-question-to-the-ex-jws were she said that she got baptized "hoping that it would sort everything out".
this got me thinking about the whole jw ritual of baptism and dedication.
i look back and recall that i never privately "dedicated" myself to anything or anyone before taking the "dip".. the wt teaching is that a person should privately dedicate (via prayer) themselves to jehovah before publically going through the ritual.

They are definitely not symmetrical (but then what in nature is?), though it could be the angle.
Content related : I did dedicate myself via prayer before my baptism. Then 10 years later, I realized there wasn't anyone on the other end of the phone-call.

Nisan chart in Feb 1 Watchtower
by jws ina couple of local jws dropped off some magazines last week and i'm browsing through the 2-1-2011 watchtower.
on pages 23 and 24, they have a chart showing the days leading up to and following jesus's death.. something struck me as weird.
along with the nisan dates, they have the equivalent date for this year.

I thought you could calculate the passover dates decades in advance?

financial warfare theory
by finallyfree! infunny little aisans immigrating into the us by the heards.
what if a country...say china were to strategically place millions of spies/agents over a span of say 20 years or so into the usa.
the chinese are one of the biggest holders of us dollars.

I think you're right about the US invading Canada. I'd say within 10 years that is a real possibility. All that fresh water (the 21st century's oil replacement), tar sands, diamonds, etc would simply too tasty to ignore. Even with NAFTA dictating that Canada MUST trade it's natural resources to the States, it would be like taking candy from a baby. As far as Coal goes, assuming everything somehow shifted over to it instead of oil, it too would only last 20 years tops (the 200 years of reserves you hear about is at "current" production rates). Nuclear's the only way to go.

Adulthood? The time of the American empire has come to an end. ~200+ years is a decent time frame for any empire, I think. There is no way out. The US is simply bankrupt. In 15 or 20 years, right when China is the next (and only) world Superpower, the American middle class will have collapsed. The U.S. can go "austerity" on their own asses, like parts of Europe are doing, or inflate their way out of debt (or default entirely), which seems to be their chosen course. Here's a hint : foreign powers (China/Japan) don't like it much when their accounts receivable is suddenly worth nothing. The ONLY thing that has saved America from itself thus far is that they are the reserve currency of the world, which might change in a few years.
As finallyfree said, a bankrupt country is a vulnerable country. It is also a very dangerous country (see Germany in the 1920's)..

In 15 years, China will have a solid middle and upper class. The piddly 300 million ever-growing poor Americans will not be of any further use to the Chinese, even as consumers. Why would they continue to bust their balls lending us money, which doesn't have a hope in hell of being repaid? I suspect the war that will be waged will be financial, and it's one America can't win.

I do love how they love to still speak for God. It seems as if they actually BELIEVE God is speaking through them, and that they know the status of the most important issue in the universe. How presumptous!

The U.S. has a very strong army - spread literally everywhere across the globe. That, and that same army was stretched to the max fighting two simultaneous "wars," if they could be called that. AND, if at some point the US army could not keep up the payroll to said army because of said financial warfare, things would get very interesting indeed. I doubt many soldiers would still fight for free when their families are starving @ home.

R.I.P. Mr Simmons. Nuclear is the only current long-term solution that has the possibility of replacing oil, but unforunately still has too much stigma attached to it, and the start-up times are forever. France is probably the best nation currently set-up to deal with peak oil, as far as energy generation goes. Last I heard, they had something like 15 nuclear reactors, providing most of their energy generation needs. In a mobile form, nothing else comes close to providing the energy density of oil.
Prior to the most recent recession/depression, the generally agreed upon peak oil date was 2010-2011. Without some fresh bull market oil demand, this means peak oil is probably pushed out a few years till 2013 or 2014.
