This is getting a bit painful. Having a document signed some time before you appear “on the elder’s radar” won’t change the outcome one bit. You say:

Their ecclesial authority has been preempted by your having already exercised your right to emancipation

And conclude that they can’t DF you. They really don’t care to DF you because you are informing them that you don’t consider yourself one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. It doesn’t matter that you made the decision one month ago or ten years ago. Once they know that you have decided to leave, then they will inform everyone about your choice to leave. They will announce you have disassociated yourself. There won’t be a committee. There won’t be a disfellowshipping. They will announce you have disassociated. The elders are not exercising any authority over you. Actually, they are doing the exact opposite and acknowledging your free choice to leave. Congrats! You are out. Now they will shun you.

Good lord. And I suppose this is the end-game here. You have this document so it means they can’t shun you. It means you family must accept you. It does not. They will announce your DA, they will shun you, so will your family. You will sue, and quickly find out that the judge will wipe his/her/zer/hir/zem/zee ass with it.

Congrats! You’ve left. Now, you could have just left without the drama.

Perhaps a complementary letter speaking in laymen terms that you are making the initiative to clearly depart this religious organization and thank the elders for their friendship and personal concern toward yourself in being a participating member.

Which is a DA letter. And that’s fine, but that’s all you need if you want to inform them at all.

How many TRUE BELIEVERS do you think are left in the Organization?

i have a few jw relatives who are true believers.

by this i mean, they believe with all their heart that 1914 was the beginning of the last days, that this is the last generation, that we are in the very last of the last hour of this system of things, and that you should obey the governing body even if it does not make sense.

all of them are in their 60s and up into their 90s there is nothing you can say or show them to convince them or even cause a small doubt that the wt is not god organization.

Have you noticed that the really committed religious men often wear that solitary pinky ring? It’s like a yell for “creepy-believer-that-doesn’t-really-believe”. It’s not just JWs. It seems to be in all religions. Some church leader gets older and then all of a sudden, out comes a pinky ring.

The point is, that as you are just an ordinary member of the Public, how can they take any measures against you ?

You are still on the list of baptized members, that’s how. And you are on that list because you agreed to be a part of the group, governed by the group rules regarding internal group matters. Now if you want to exercise your right to freedom of religion and association, and exit that group, they will allow that to happen without any fight or threat.

Ok, so the strategy is to print off this letter, fill it all out, sign it, and then... put it in a drawer somewhere? Then live your life, stop going to meetings, maybe throw in a holiday celebration, and if the elders come around, BOOM! You spring this on them and say, “I filled this out a year ago, before I stopped meetings. Ergo, checkmate!”

This is the strategy? They are gonna DA you the very next week.

If you want to threaten them with a lawsuit, individually, go ahead. That might work if they don’t want to deal with it and the WT won’t help with the legal defense. But, to be clear, it’s the lawsuit threats that would stop them, and the time/expenses that would come with it, not the letter.

@DoC: Exactly. I think 99% of elders would just think it’s a DA letter, quietly fill out the paperwork, and make the announcement.

The other 1% would ask the person about the purpose of the letter, and then based on the given answer would just fill out the DA paperwork and make the announcement.

Should the title of the thread be: “How to submit a very technical DA letter”?

Why would you send this document the the elders in order to quit quietly? Seems kinda like a ... loud ... action to take at the very start. What is the purpose?
