Hi Mongolia,
I'm looking for any biblical reference that supports immortality of the soul in any of the books that make up the Bible.
Vander
i wonder if someone would care to produce a list (full quotes) of all the proof texts in scripture they are aware of that establish that the human soul is innately immortal?.
just the scriptures...without comment please...so everyone will see just how clear the bible alone (sola scriptura) is on this issue.

Hi Ding,
Neither resurrected life, nor conscious existence immediately after physical death, equates with innate immortality. Your reasoning has built a doctrinal bridge in your mind. Again, I am not looking for human reasoning or human definitions, or additions to scripture to base my faith on...but the Word of God alone.
I'm looking for clear biblical teaching that requires no bridging of gaps...such as:
"And the wages of sin is eternal suffering in hell.
Day and night for all eternity, the wicked will
call out for mercy, but there will be none to save.
Their immortal souls will writhe in endless pain
Their anger will never dissipate. They will weep
and howl in the fires of eternity, aware of their
loss, their endless future, with no one or nothing
to comfort them." Jehosaphat 3:16
I know your beliefs are clear. But is the scripture as clear as your beliefs?
It's so easy to be taken in by tradition...

Yes GLAD, everybody has an immoral soul. Very scriptural! That's why we need to be born again...contrary to WTS thinking.

Hi Revealer,
<<Using the famous or infamous Ezekial 18:4 would suggest that if the "soul" avoids sinning it is not subject to dying.>>
Eze 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Although Eze 18:4 may be used to support conditional immortality, it makes no case for innate immortality; quite the contrary really.

Hi Stephen,
Thanks for the scriptures...but life after death is not the issue. Even Witnesses believe born again Christians....well since 1918 anyway, go instantaneously to heaven immediately at death. I'm looking for scriptures that establish that man is born with an immortal soul.

Hi Ding,
Thank you for responding and quoting these wonderful passages as requested.
Re: Is every human soul endowed with innate immortality?
Rev. 6:9-11: "When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. 10 They called out in a loud voice, "How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?" 11 Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and brothers who were to be killed as they had been was completed." One might use this passage to support conscious life after death for the righteous, but innate immortality as a current possession of all or any, only by assumption. Paul remember looked forward to putting on immortality at the resurrection. (I Cor.15:52-54) Why put on something you already possess as a baby?
Luke 16:19-31 (rich man and Lazarus) Lazarus is described as being in Hades (Hell) which is temporary. At a future point before the final judgment, Hades will be emptied of people...so it cannot legitimately be used to establish the eternal nature or even the eternal state of the soul.
Luke 23:42-43: "Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." 43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise." Certainly the righteous are promised life after death; but this mortal must still put on immortality. It is something we do not now possess.
Hebrews 12:22-23: "But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect..." Again this passage says nothing about innate immortailty. You might argue that it speaks to conditional immortality...but it falls far short of proving every human soul is innately immortal.
2 Cor. 5:8-10: "We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 9 So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad." Again this passage does not speak about anyone's current condition.
All the above scriptures you quoted unfortunately fall short o human immortality. They may be used to prove life after death, but the scripture declares that God alone has immortality (I Tim.6:16) and that we mortals must put immortality on at the last trump. 1Co 15:53
Now you did quote Revelation 20. I will save that one until other texts are out there.

Thank you Purps and Michelle.
I've gone to Gravatar and submitted a pic. If I can't win people over with my personality, perhaps my good looks and Holy Ghost smile will tilt the scale in my direction. :^)
