1917 Watch Tower is before Jesus chose the representatives of the organization as his Faithful and Discreet Slave so it doesn't count, they were still a part of Christendom at the time.
(Forget it, I actually just read the article and I see the Bible Students pre Faithful and Discreet Slave status apparently had it right.)

Exactly Splash. Doesn't this open the door to explaining away anything?
Birthdays, Christmas decorations ... most people don't view any of the related symbols for their pagan origin. The door is open to spin, unfortunately, only headquarters will be allowed to use it.

Barrold, I had the exact same thought after reading that letter.
... and in the video they made recreating the announcement of the JW name at a convention, why did they not include the flags as in the actual account?

What happens within the JW organisation?

i don't know if you guys all know (depends how big this website is) that i have some jw friends.
i'm interested in their belief (luckily no desire to belief it :p) because it's kind of a mystery what really happens in a jw organisation.

It is a cult.
According to your previous post about playing ball with them, you see the faith and following the rules are stronger in some than in others. I assume it is similar if you were strict about your faith.
The JW's teach that they are the only truth faith and that all others are from the devil. All people not JW's are mislead and followers of the devil whether they realize it or not because there are only two options, a follower of the Almighty God (a JW) and everyone else. You are part of the everyone else, a worldly person.
JW's teach that "bad association spoils useful habits" ... the only truly good association to a JW would be other JW's in good standing, worldly people, whether good or bad are blanket condemned as bad association.
