Whatever I am confusing Cofty... you still have not backed up YOUR statement with anything scientific. You're just making it based on what you think you know about a God you say does not exist, and so a God you do NOT know.

As for your question, it does not seem that there is any answer or consideration that will suffice for you. If ever someone provides you with one, great. If not... I guess you are just going to have to ask God when you meet Him. (or you could ask His Son NOW and listen for His answer)

Then or now, I guarantee that His answer will not be against love and truth.

But until then, this question and these debates will continue.

No Cofty you have not explained that those are not a necessary feature. You suggested it as though it is fact, with absolutely no knowledge or scientific backing to support your claim. You don't really expect anyone to just take your word for it do you? Did you not read Snare's contribution earlier that said that the eruptions (I am paraphrasing) are what cause the availability of fresh water?

You can't make a statement like that without knowing all there is to know about cause/effect of such things... and you don't know those.

Would it not simply be best to defeat death once and for all?

Because THAT is what God promised. (That... and that He would hear the prayers of those who a) do as He said at Isaiah 58 (which man does not do); and b, now) those who come to Him through His Son FIRST.)

He never promised to stop or intervene on all the things that cause phsical death (including movements of the earth that cause natural events that man calls disasters when life is taken, but without which events life on this planet would not be possible in the first place)... events that His Son forewarned WOULD happen... except to defeat death itself. His promise is that His Son will GIVE the water of life (eternal life) to all in Him, and that Son calls for ANYONE to come and take that gift... and His promise is to defeat DEATH itself.

That doesn't sound passive to me at all. Sounds pretty active. That is what He has done and is doing. Sounds like a helluva gift too, on top of being given life to begin with. Resurrection, eternal life and love and peace and joy and truth.

But I already proved that God causes the natural disasters. It's in the bible. Maybe you should read the bible rather than just your own comments.

Lol... that is a pretty weak standard of proof, Billy. No theist is allowed to use that as proof, but an atheist is?

Before you go ahead and tell me that is what i use as proof... read some of my posts. Something is not true just because it is written in the bible.

I am afraid that i must be off for a spell now. Talk more later. But if you want to start a thread about the things that people do in the name of God, or the things that they attribute to him, and how we can know whether they are speaking truthfully or not... I will join in that as soon as I am able! I know we've had those threads before, but we have also had threads like this before. Looking forward to it if you want to have that discussion though.

You're not very good at being condescending.

Probably because I wasn't BEING condescending, nor trying to be so.

So you admit that god does cause suffering, just not as much as man.

He doesn't have to protect his followers from each other, Billy. His followers do not go after each other, or anyone for that matter. Those who CLAIM to be His followers, however... that is another matter.

Seriously PB, you need to do some serious self-examination. You look upon the suffering of others with indifference and even contempt. And you can't respond to cofty's reasoning so you resort to insults. Sad.

No, he didn't look upon suffering of others with indifference or even contempt.

It is the hypocrisy... of people crying out about the injustice of a god that does not stop natural consequences of a natural world, natural disasters... while all along it is man who contributes and causes even MORE suffering than that. Maybe if man would stop all that He does to cause suffering, he would have grounds and a right to ask God to step in and end the rest. But man is not REALLY interested in others' suffering. (some men are, of course, and many are simply interested only in what promotes THEIR desires/agendas, and to hell with anyone who gets hurt in the process; they are not important)

His response was to THAT... not to the suffering of people.

I would have thought that was obvious.

This thread is only about natural evil - bad stuff that happens that has nothing to do with humans.

Yeah, I responded to that too. You ignored it. So if you want to point a finger at someone regarding intellectual dishonesty, start perhaps with yourself.

How did evil get here then? Like a virus itself perhaps... from our choices. Anything that does not come FROM love can and does cause harm to someone or something, even if we do not see that ourselves... tec

There's no reasonable explanation for the poor choice this baby could've possibly have made, except the poor choice to be born into a World where believers like TEC would blame them for a condition that was completely beyond their ability to control.... adamah

Don't be ridiculous Adamah. I wasn't talking about 'natural evil', as the term is used here. But rather evil that we bring into the world... resulting from hate, greed, etc. Harm that we cause to others because of it. Some sickness IS a result of that mind you... like cancer, from people who covered up causes of cancer, or put power lines in places that cause cancer, or use cancer-causing ingredients in fertilization or preservation, or sent bombs and used chemical warfare that has had lasting consequences for even the survivors. (not necessarily cancer, but other things as well) But it is not the baby's fault that others brought that into the world.

I never even implied the evil thing that you said.

Just in case anyone is interested, but this is the longest thread (75 pages) I think JWN has, on this question... why does God allow suffering. It had its good points and bad points, friendly times and not-so-friendly times, lol. But it was a pretty epic discussion.
