Songs that remind you of your Mum . . .
by nicolaou ini remember my mum standing at the kitchen sink preparing little cypriot meat patties in a beat up enamel dish.
there was a window overlooking the small garden where me and my brother and sisters used to play (wonderful, wonderful times before the cult got its tentacles into our family).. my mum used to sing lots of tunes but this lynn anderson song is the one i remember .
actually choking up a little .

Wasblind, I haven't heard "Little Green Apples" since I don't know when. Sure did bring back old memories of my mother and father.

My mother loved church music. I can see her doing her little dance.

My husband was very proud of the President last night. He loved the speech. Being a retired disabled veteran himself, he was glad to hear the President give the credit to the military people for putting their lives on the line. He, also, loved the end of the speech where he said:
Let us remember that we can do these things not just because of wealth or power, but because of who we are: one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Thank you. May God bless you. And may God bless the United States of America.

MsDucky,
Ali had short term disability through her employer. It carried her through about 4 months... The first 12 weeks at full pay and after that half pay. She did not have long term disability insurance. She qualifies for Social Security Disability, but really doesn't want to do that if there is any chance of returning to work.. and there appears to be a good chance that she can.

OIC, I'm just trying to think of something to help. I'm glad to hear that her job is sympathetic to her plight. Something is going to work out. Keep the faith.

If Jehovah wanted a donation box for the poor, then Jehovah would have one at the Kingdom Hall. <------ This is why JWs are not angry about it. At any given time, whatever conditions exist -- those conditions are GOD'S WILL.
I knew of many JWs' that used social services. Services such as The American Red Cross, Salvation Army, and other churches' food donation and utility payment services. I didn't understand how that worked??? You shouldn't donate to the services; but you could use the services? *scratches head*

I remember asking my bible study conductor about charities; and he said "If a man will not work, he shall not eat". As if the only reason that a person would not work was because of laziness. Such ignorance!

They'd probably quote Jesus and say "the poor will always be with you," as if to say it wasn't important to look after orphans and widows in their tribulation.
Actually, I'm pretty sure they've used that rationale to berate donating to charities that help the impoverished.
Skully, this is so true! I remember having that mindset. *smh*

Coffee are you saying that she doesn't have long-term disability? I'm just trying to understand? When I was working and had to take off due to illness, my employee disability insurance approved my short-term disability, which allowed me to get about 3/4 of my monthly gross. . .but they denied my long-term disability insurance.. .
Is this what happened to Ali? If so, tell her to fight it!
I'm glad to hear that she got the medical care that she needed!
