But this finding is different. It is about how the scrolls were preserved and they do contain a version of the Scriptures that is different from the Masoretic text. That is to say, now we don't have just discussions, but a strong suggestion that there was never one single scripture to start with.

Dead Sea Scrolls and the inerrant word of God
by dgp insome days ago i read this article:.

Some days ago I read this article:
http://www.economist.com/culture/displaystory.cfm?story_id=15543906
It essentially says that, more or less when Christ is deemed to have been alive as a person, there was more than one version of the Scriptures out there. Which is a hell of a problem for a believer. People of faith hold it that God transmitted his word inerrantly. But it so happens that God didn't seem to be speaking with one voice, as there was more than one version of the Scriptures. The least you can say is that someone tampered with one version and not with the others. But then, who is to know who did what?
I would appreciate any comments.

Does this happen to anyone else?
by doublelife inthis doesn't happen a lot but every once in a while, on a day that used to be my meeting night, i'll get a weird feeling.
it happened today.
it's hard to explain what it is.

Now that I think about it, habits die hard. I imagine mental conditioning dies hard, too.
Take it one day at a time and you'll make it.

I think I understand how you feel. You know you did the right thing for you, only you wish it weren't that hard on the wife that you love. It's clear that you do, or you wouldn't even bother to ponder whether you should have stayed there for her.
Once a person gets to know what is true and what is not, it's impossible to go back. That's how we are made. So, there's nothing wrong with your finding it impossible to go back. Honest people don't betray their principles.
You sound frustrated that you couldn't get her out. Man, do I understand that feeling, even though I'm not a JW.
I am no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses. But I am a person. I am a human being, a part of a world of human beings
Indeed. Welcome back into the world. Do not let them beat you. You're finally free.

I'm not a JW but I think this is something like a fear of ever going back. From what I gather, things like this one are common. No, you're not a drama queen.

Response to the Argument that Jehovah's Witnesses are not Cult Members
by bluecanary inthis is in response to the ezine article the argument that jehovah's witnesses are not cult members:.
this article is dangerously misinformed about (a) what constitutes a cult and (b) that the jws do in fact fit this category.
there is ample evidence of mind control, manipulation and cult tactics in this group, but you will not see it by casually chatting with a witness.

As a non-JW, it's quite obvious to me that only a person with absolutely no information about JW's would believe this. Unfortunately, most people don't really know what the WTS is like. This forum helps with that.

Evil triplets: shunning, no contact with worldlies, and conditional love.
by dgp inas a non-jw, i am only beginning to grasp the real force of what i deem to be evil triplets, shunning, no contact with worldlies, and conditional love.
if you leave, you won't have any outside contacts and you will lose your family and friends; but, in the meantime, you are damned certain that you can't be sure they won't be taken away from you at any moment.. i think that the fact that true love and friendship can really develop among witnesses is a triumph of the human spirit.
how sad that anyone needs to bear all this..

Another possible explanation for why older JW converts won't leave....
by besty in"dollar auction' theory - it goes like this.... .
the setup involves an auctioneer who volunteers to auction off a dollar bill with the following rule: the dollar goes to the highest bidder, who pays the amount he bids.
the second-highest bidder also must pay the highest amount that he bid, but gets nothing in return.. .

Though I'm not a witness, I think I have learned enough to say that this can be true of old converts whose children have left. Those who have children in might stay out of a simple fear of losing their children and grandchildren.
