This Disturbs Me Most of All
by cameo-d inno, it's not the "claw hand"!
what disturbs me most of all is the potter's shards.. any coin collector will tell you that the "imperfect" coins are the most valuable.
any art historian will tell you that the value of a painting is it's originality and uniqueness and the talent that can only come with time, suffering, and perserverence.. it is the oddities and quirks in one of a kind pieces that make them a delight and a treasure.. so why is it that this potter has no appreciation for uniqueness?

I Jesus dwells the full embodiemnt of God, in Jesus, all the qualities of God are embodied, Jesus is God Manifested.
One can interpret that as Jesus being God, but nowhere did I say that Jesus is God.
I don't have any issue with an interpretation, unless it starts to be emphazied as scriptural and based for Salvation.

Whose Prayers Are Heard?
by compound complex in"but peter began, and said, 'now i really understand that god is not a respecter of persons, but in every nation he who fears him anddoes what is right is acceptable to him.
' " --- acts 10:34, 35; douay version.
as a jw, if you were one, did you truly believe that god would answer the prayer of a "worldly" individual only if he were praying: "dear god, i'm desperate!

I don't think its a question of having "no doubt", even the disciples had doubts.
Its a question of genuine belief, Faith, Hope, fueled by Love for God and his Son Jesus.
We all are imperfect and none of us have 100% faith, but thsoe that have 100% Love, have God and Jesus in their hearts.

Oldest bible being put online - what will that mean for WTS teachings?
by Simon in(and of course for christianity as a whole).
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/7651105.stm.
the problem is ... the oldest bible shows that it's been changed significantly so all the claims about it being gods word are clearly bogus.

One wonders if the many denominations that existed then, as now, had to do with the simple fact that there were many "bibles" in circulation.
Certainly interpretation played(plays) the key role in the differences in many denominations, nevertheless, one wonders if Denomination A believed they were the "right one" because they had verison 1.2 and Denomination B had version 1.4, or that Denomination C was correct because they had version 1.7 and the other version were "obsolete".

The Shack by William Young touched me deeply and renewed my faith in Jesus and God.
In Search of Christain Freedom and Crisis of Conscience by Raymond Franz, made me aware that the issues I laways had with organized religion were not just mine.
Question of COnsceince by Charles Davis, showed me the the issues that Mr.Franz faced in the WT were faced by other in the RCC far earlier and made me understand that we must truly server Christ and NOT any man-made organization.
The Jesus I Never Knew by Philip Yancey, which I read after The Shack motivate dme to read the NT with new eyes.
The NRSV of the NT with greek Interlinear, One of the best study interlinears I have.

The oldest verifiable Christian writings that we have were paul's letters to the Thessaloninas, Phillipians, Galatians, Romans and Corinthians, dtaed by some to just 50 years after the death of Christ.
Not sure what Matthew's Gospel would give us in terms of a pciture, that Paul's letter don't, even if it was in Hebrew.

The epistle of Barnabus does have the mentioning of the shape of the cross where Jesus died:9:39 - shape of a "T" ( Tau in Greek).

Many faithful Christians want for the "end of this ystem of theings", they yearn for the Kingdom of God to save them, just as it is promised in scripture.
Is it a cop-out?
While the prospect of god and Jesus fixing all the mess we made is all well and good, they also gave us all th etools for US to fix it and for us to create our "own" paradise on Earth.
Yes it may be harder, take longer and be less "specatcular", but we certainly will be more deserving of it, no?
I see to many just "give up" and seclude themselves in their own little world. hoping for the End of Days, hoping for God and jesus to take away all the inequities of the world and make it a paradise for them, sure they go out and they preach, sure they have bibel studies to bring people into the "truth", but what do they do to make the world a better place?
The passage in Matthew 25:34-40 has always made it clear, at least to me, that Jesus valued taking care of our fellow man much higher than any other deed and here he specifies the very deeds that will give us our Salvation and, indeed, make our world a beter world.
Rather than just waiting around for the end to come.

What good was Field Service?
by BurnTheShips init seems like a massive waste of time.. how many people would successfully convert to the witnesses from field circus?
it was pretty much a waste of time in spanish language the last several years, and yet english language bros would join the spanish congos because they thought it was so much more productive!.

My Mom was converted via field service ( and Bible studies), then so was my sister and father, so 3 people ( that I know) were converted to the Jw's because of field service.
