Viviane: "Also, as far as respect goes, people on this thread have called me names, "
Do you feel it is wrong to call someone names? Do you feel it is not the right way to have a productive conversation?
i am inclined to start this thread in response to some comments made in other threads.
i have been coming around these forum for quite some time now so whatever you find in here is not just related to something someone may have said this week.
it can go months back as well.. i have seen many who claim to respect the belief of others but when it comes down to applying it into practice, things take a whole different tune.

a year to a year and a half ago, i would have taken this article at face value and believed it.. now, i realize this article comes from a dubious source.
world news daily has a die-hard right-wing bias.
so, in an effort to get real information, i'm asking my european exjw's, is this article all true?

I am all for free speech.
A person can call me an ignorant worthless asshole for not understanding a minute detail about general relativity perfectly, this is within the rights of that person. I am not calling for censorship in that conversation.
However it cuts both ways and I am free to point out that is a silly and aggressive way to communicate.
i know we are all anonymous for our own personal reasons, so i understand if you would rather not say.
but if you don't mind sharing that would be cool.

The searcher: Okay here is a really silly question, when do elders meet? (assemblies or one of those special yearly meetings?)
All the news we are hearing must be seeping through to the elders. Along with the many recent changes it must be having an effect. I read that many rapid changes can be a factor to draw someone into a cult (a feeling something important is happening) however this was aimed at a younger person. An elder, who presumably would often be a middle-aged person with a family, stability is likely a more important factor mentally and the many changes (such as the digitalization of the religion and the televised appearance of the GB members in their daily life) must require major mental re-adjustment.
i saw:.
neil armstrong say those famous words...this is one small step for a man........... muhammad ali win and loose the world title 3 times.. the 1st women prime minster of the uk..
Fall of the Berlin wall (though I did not understand it at the time) and 9/11.
It is a bit scary to think about what else we are going to see. Seems like it is about one "moment in history" every 20 years so it would appear we are nearly due.

This forum allows very wide definition of free speech and I think it is that much better for it. If people could be banned for being offensive or rude I would not like to be here and I can't imagine the forum not collapsing with endless bickering about partiality, what constitute rudeness, etc.
But if the forum allows posters to be (near at least!) as unconstructive and rude as they like, the upshot is it is possible to point this out and disagree with the delivery. If someone call someone a fool for not understanding evolution, it should be allowed to say this too is a foolish way to respond.
