On respect for the belief of others. Sorry for the long post
by StarTrekAngel ini am inclined to start this thread in response to some comments made in other threads.
i have been coming around these forum for quite some time now so whatever you find in here is not just related to something someone may have said this week.
it can go months back as well.. i have seen many who claim to respect the belief of others but when it comes down to applying it into practice, things take a whole different tune.

Viviane: it was suggested I was cowering inside and to be pitied by the same people that are complaining about how they are treated
Is this related to the question i asked you the other day:
"Viv, you asked for an example of a computer program that evolved and i provided a list.
I really dont get why you interact the way you do with people on this forum. It appears you are only interesting in starting and winning arguments, not with superior arguments or facts, but with anger and rethoric. Are you a happy person?"Speaking for myself, I am slightly worried for you, or rather if I had your posting history I would *know* i was not in a happy place in my life. I tried to go over your past threads and you seemed a different person 2 years ago, much more happy and open to conversation with other people. In many ways you remind me of an atheistic version of a previous poster here, Brotherdan, who due to stressful life circumstances got pulled into a bad form of evangelism.

Viviane: "Also, as far as respect goes, people on this thread have called me names, "
Do you feel it is wrong to call someone names? Do you feel it is not the right way to have a productive conversation?

Headline: "Islamic Invasion: Europe now scrambles for guns." How true is this?
by cappytan ina year to a year and a half ago, i would have taken this article at face value and believed it.. now, i realize this article comes from a dubious source.
world news daily has a die-hard right-wing bias.
so, in an effort to get real information, i'm asking my european exjw's, is this article all true?

I am all for free speech.
A person can call me an ignorant worthless asshole for not understanding a minute detail about general relativity perfectly, this is within the rights of that person. I am not calling for censorship in that conversation.
However it cuts both ways and I am free to point out that is a silly and aggressive way to communicate.

freddo: Thanks for the insight, it makes total sense but it just never occurred to me. If the Bethel culls is a topic of conversation in your area (australia?) it must be so worldwide -- so much for the downsizing not coming back to bite them in the ass! -

The searcher: Okay here is a really silly question, when do elders meet? (assemblies or one of those special yearly meetings?)
All the news we are hearing must be seeping through to the elders. Along with the many recent changes it must be having an effect. I read that many rapid changes can be a factor to draw someone into a cult (a feeling something important is happening) however this was aimed at a younger person. An elder, who presumably would often be a middle-aged person with a family, stability is likely a more important factor mentally and the many changes (such as the digitalization of the religion and the televised appearance of the GB members in their daily life) must require major mental re-adjustment.

Fall of the Berlin wall (though I did not understand it at the time) and 9/11.
It is a bit scary to think about what else we are going to see. Seems like it is about one "moment in history" every 20 years so it would appear we are nearly due.
