  Heaven - We were taught evolution in the 60s, as part of the curriculum (Nova Scotia) in junior high school. It's 'general' science. Perhaps that varies from province-to-province.

  Hey tal, this is good to read. I was in high school in the '70s in Ontario. If I recall correctly, Evolution was handled in high school Biology class. This course was not mandatory. I know because I did not take it in grade 10 as I didn't like the teacher. So my Science involved a General Science class (which did not include Evolution), a separate Physics course, and a third separate class on Chemistry (we made acid rain and I inhaled a lung full of it... nasty!).

  To get your grade 12 graduation diploma, it was mandatory that you had Science credits, but not necessarily Biology/Evolution.

  Awake! to be part of Watchtower Public Edition!

  this was posted on a jw site and it would be nice if we could verify.. .. .. as of february 2015, the awake!

  will come as a part of the watchtower public edition instead of as a separate magazine.

  this is a huge change... with serious cost savings.

  At last evolution is a compulsory topic in the science curriculum in the UK

  This is good to read, cofty. I am not sure if this is true in Canada. When I was in high school, it was not (but then, I'm rather old now ).

  I think the display of solidarity shows extremists that what they are trying to accomplish isn't working. It just strengthens our resolve against them.

  Canada is not new to terror -- one example is the FLQ (Front de Liberation du Quebec) which had its time when I was a little kid (active between 1963 and 1970).

  A friend of my boyfriend is with the Canadian Armed Forces. She states there will be a heightened response from our military and that there will be "boots on the ground now".

  Meanwhile, Nathan Cirillo's family will live with this for the rest of their lives.

  I agree. And it's rather a sad statement. I think the Science classes in high school need an overhaul. I've learned more about evolution as an adult because I was interested in the topic than I ever did in high school. I also think that a class on Evolution should be mandatory for all high school students.

  that is the conclusion you must accept if you are a jehovah's witness as my wife tries to explain to me that even if what they are teaching today contradicts what they were previously teaching, they had the truth then and they have the truth now.

  the difference is, they (the witnesses and the governing body) simply believed that what they were teaching at the time was the truth but when they discovered new information they adjusted their thinking.

  so since they formerly believed it to be the truth, they were in the truth.. an example she gave involved people who once believed the earth was flat.
