  i want to share with you all a most wonderful experience i have just had.

  i have been going to a christian church called the vineyard.

  they have a live band and lots of singing goes on there.

  After it is all done with, they feel fear of being caught and often despicable for what they have done.

  That is so with the common criminal. The serial killer who is more than usually a sociopathic killer has no fear at all. The feel nothing, fear nothing and can quite easily cook a pasta dinner over the bodies of their victims, turn the radio on and have a very nice time. They are born without conscience, that is why even as five year olds they can kill and dismember their family pets.

  They do have a sense of euphoria during the long planning stages of a murder, during the murder and after the murder when they revisit the scene of their crime. Their senses are heightened to an almost supernatural degree during the killing stage, but then when this feeling fades, they must kill again to recapture the feeling.

  We are all chemical creatures.

  FHN, that someone would compare a murdering psychopath to Maddie says a lot about their own mental state. Pretty unbelievable, but from startingover, not surprising.

  The poster was not comparing Maddie the person with the person of a sociopathic killer, but just the ecstatic feelings that each senses, one from religious inspiration and the other not.

  The reality is that even biologically these feelings cannot be compared as different areas of the brain are involved. A religious experience complete with ecstatic euphoria can be artificially induced either by electrical stimulation of certain areas of the brain, or by chemical means. The interesting thing is that when induced, the person undergoing the religious ecstacy always interprets it in the religious terms of his own fund of knowledge and environment. i.e. A Hindu does not see Christ, just as a Christian does not see Vishnu, they each see and feel things associated with their own religion or environment. We are talking about a visceral, internal experience, not some spirit being introduced into that person from outside of themselves.

  One cannot however induce sociopathy by chemical or electrical means by stimulating any part of the brain, so the comparison is not valid. These are very different sensations.

  liked him...when he stayed we would sit up late and discuss philosophical stuff....estimation went way down when he sided with my jc who had wrongly df-ed me...bygones (sided with tony boyland who was my jc chairman and brians temporary co)

  That is the problem. However 'nice' the CO's are, they are by definition fair weather friends. They will inevitably make decisions based on career not on compassion if these decisions have any public profile.

  I once caught out a CO in a serious lie. He was terrified that the Branch would hear about it and begged me to remain silent about the matter. That he had lied was of little consequence to him, that people might know about it struck him with terror. Of course I did not report him, but that situation indicates the priorities at work in the average CO.

  lol...yes, I remember Tom. He fired from the hip, one of the old school. Love him or hate him, you always knew he was around.

  And Michael 'Hector' Spurr. Yes, that was really his middle name. I think his parents must have disliked him. The kids caught on to his middle-name very quickly and loved to taunt him with it...lol

  A great many mental states can be measured, HS. The biological state of a brain induced by eating a cheesburger can be measured, the biologicval state caused by thinking of someone you love can be measured also. As you note, one man's cheeseburger is another's falafel, but both are tasty fast food and these are subjective interpretations of the same experience, IMHO.

  This is true in some ways, but given the identical brain measured brain responses in certain strict areasof the brain that these religious experiences invoke, we are speaking not of 'love' and cheesburgers', but Fakir and Christian.

  For example, the identical, measurable biological reactions within the brain to religious ecstacy in both Fakir and Christian would have us asking whether a mainstream committed Christian, or indeed a committed Fakir would give each exprience equal validity religiously?

  It seems framing the question in this way forces the experience into a strictly Christian framework, and almost labels this experience a "reward", like a cookie for taking out the trash. I think when we are most wrapped up in seeking answers to questions, we are in a state of awareness that blocks everything but the need to know.

  If you were to read my comments in context, this is what I had already stated in an earlier post and the above comments are just an addendum to this post:

The way they affect the mind chemically does not seem to differ from a Christian undergoing an ecstatic experience, a Fakir having his own religious experience, or a exponent of Voodo in a religious trance. Each person interprets the powerful feelings that they are undergoing in terms of the religion that they understand and adhere to.

  I am not a believer, but if I were, a question that I would seek answers to is as to why some in every religion are excluded from this powerful and obviously faith-strengthening experience.

The way they affect the mind chemically does not seem to differ from a Christian undergoing an ecstatic experience, a Fakir having his own religious experience, or a exponent of Voodo in a religious trance. Each person interprets the powerful feelings that they are undergoing in terms of the religion that they understand and adhere to.

  I am not a believer, but if I were, a question that I would seek answers to is as to why some in every religion are excluded from this powerful and obviously faith-strengthening experience.

  The "Bullshit" comment was rude, but everyone else pretty much seemed supportive. I don't see what the big deal is.

  This has nothing to do with Maddie, but all to do with JK666 and NVR who have a history of sorts. Maddie is just being used as a Trojan horse for those with a personal agenda. I agree with you, that she was 'supported' by the vast majority, and those who did not 'support' her have the right to question her experience, as much right as she has of presenting it. Understanding this takes a level of maturity that seems to be missing in some posters - hence this pointless thread. HS
