Something I want to say: "I am an Atheist and I don't believe in any of this, 'the truth', Armageddon, the Kingdom, Jesus, God, and the FDS." That would go over very well...

Why Guess About Dates At All?
by Pickled ini posted this on another thread and realized that it was really off topic, so i made it a separate topic because i would really like to read your thoughts about this... .
does anyone know if any reasons are given by the wtbts about why they feel it is such an important part of their teachings to keep guessing about dates and the years things are going to happen?
it seems that it adds nothing to whatever they believe about the bible, and it has only served to create such confusion among their members over the years.

I feel like the GB is SO wrapped up in being 'the truth' that they must have answers for everything. Just look at the Daniel and Revelation books. They have an explanation for absolutely everything, even if there really is no biblical backing. I think dates just become part of it. They want to be wise and all-knowing, and want to be able to predict these dates, of course since they are god's channel and all...

Jehovah's Witnesses - A Hijacked Religion
by B_Deserter inthe more and more i read about the history of the witnesses, the more i don't see them as one in the same as charles t. russell's religion.
i think the religious movement from 1874 to 1916 was completely different than the one from 1918 to now.
rutherford is the real founder of jehovah's witnesses.

You have come to the same conclusion my wife and I came to. Rutherford totally started his new religion based off Russel, but changed many things. He even went against Russel's wishes that he left in his will. Rutherford introduced many new doctrines, and from what I read, he seems like a televangelist today, living the high life, and loving his fame. This is very different than what the Proclaimers book portrays.
You can read this history in Wikipedia:

As a Witness Did you Feel "Coerced" to be "Used" for " Privileges" ?
by flipper inbeing raised in a fairly prominent witness family was a challenge for me growing up .
my dad was city overseer for 30 years in the same city .
older brother in bethel for 8 years, has been an elder 35 years , an older sister who went to gilead school and regular pioneered for years .

I actually had the opposite problem. They never used me, even back when I wanted to be used. I made hints at wanting to reach out, but I wasn't good enough. I didn't have huge hours in service, but I was always regular.
What really pissed me off was that a 9-year old was doing mics this last Sunday. I wasn't ever good enough as an adult, but a 9 year old is?
I'm glad it worked out the way it did, because I think handling mics are stupid now. And all that contributed to my fade. Thanks brothers! -

Stuck in the "Truth"
by IMustBreakAway ini notice from comments posted that many here who post (and untold scores who lurk) are still "in".
perhaps their social / family circles are too constricted for freedom of mind, and or, they are too afraid to rock the boat.
or too young to strike out on their own and are dependent on jw parents for support.

Red ties at the next convention?
LOL!! My wife and I just yesterday were joking about this. What if we all wear red ties next Sunday, and what if amazingly ALL brothers had red ties!!

Did anyone ever "Really" stumble you ?
by Casper inthis is one of the things i felt could get really petty in the congregation i attended, sometimes over the top, in my opinion.. one time a group of us sisters went on a shopping trip.
the driver was knocking herself out trying to find some "decent" music on the radio.
finally gave up and put a john mellencamp tape in.

I always thought the whole concept was pretty silly. If this is 'The Truth', how can it be so easy for anyone to fall away, whether it be someone else's actions, the internet, or whatever?
If someone can get stumbled over something as stupid as a song, THAT person has major problems with their faith, not necessarily you for playing it.
This is just another example of people taking things way overboard... I could never stand it when people were so anal over little things...
That being said, I never have, and I know of no one who was actually stumbled by someone else... -

Anonymously disclosing location
by Mickey mouse ini had an idea last night and thought i would see how others feel about it.. i would just love to know if there are members of jwd in my area.
unfortunately like so many others i cannot give too much away as i am still "in" for family reasons.
i was thinking, would it work if we created some of those maps where you can pin your location but do it anonymously (i.e not using our jwd i.d as a reference)?

What you are referring to is Frappr. http://www.frappr.com/whereamimap
If someone creates a JWD account and we can all enter in our location, I think it would be great.
