Field ministry blooper reel:
by Awakened07 in-did you ever stuff up your presentation while going door-to-door?.
i remember one beautiful summer day, me and my 'partner' were slowly approaching a man working in his garden.
it was warm, it was sunny, it was beautiful, it was peaceful and quiet - you might say it was "paradise".

"If evolution is true, what's to keep us from behaving like animals?"
by Awakened07 inare we "just babies"?
are we "just animals"?.
yes - animals do not and cannot appreciate art, music, poetry, history, beauty etc.

Newly baptized JWs = strict, "old" JWs = not so much?
by Awakened07 inyes - it's one of my flashes of memories again:.
i remember how when someone new and really eager and zealous came along, at some point in the conversation (or later) it would be brought up how these new jws (newly baptized) were so "square" (in my language), meaning they were so strict, by-the-book, rigid.
whereas those who had been in longer were more "round", as in more relaxed, not so bothered by the "details"... i remember joking about how newly baptized people should have a year or two of "quarantine" from the field ministry, because they were being too assertive.. now that i remember it so many years later, it's actually rather interesting.

-Turns out I was ALWAYS an "apostate".
by Awakened07 ina recent post by jcanon (of all people, lol) jogged my memory and brought back (repressed?
) memories from when i was just a kid.
i remembered that i was constantly thinking - thinking of all that i learned as a jw (and at school/elsewhere), but i was always able to look at it from "outside the box" even as a kid.

Facebook surprise: looks like most of my childhood friends got out!
by Awakened07 ini only recently joined facebook (yes, a little late to the party).
and today i found one person there that i still consider somewhat of a friend, that i know is disfellowshipped.
this person turns out to be a 'hub', in that this person has a lot of facebook 'friends'.

Help please (Leolaia, Narkissos?).
by Awakened07 innot sure if these are stupid questions or not, but i just thought of it all last night, and would like to have it answered:.
so - the jews around the time jesus came around were apparently expecting a messiah to show up, because of the prophecies in the ot.
so they were waiting for the messiah to 'arrive' at the time.

Tower of Babel - /another thing/ God didn't have to do.
by Awakened07 inwe all know the story of the tower of babel, and there are lots of things one can discuss around the topic, like for instance how god actually didn't allow mankind to 'experiment' with governing themselves, but chose to intervene whenever they seemed to get close to being united.. however - that is not the topic of this thread (and has been covered in other threads already).. .
so - what do i mean when i say "another thing god didn't have to do"?.
the first of the things i'm referring to, is the diversity of life itself, as it happens through evolution by cumulative steps of naturally selected, inherited traits over the generations of a population (i'm not going to go into detail here).. so - over to the other thing that god didn't have to do:.

Jephthah's daughter.
by Awakened07 ini suddenly remembered the story of jephthah's daughter, or rather, the way the watchtower interprets it.
the story can be found in judges 11, from verse 29. .
now the story loosely goes like this; jephthah wants to go against the ammonites and - as is par for the course - slay them all.

Did you have "a personal relationship to Jehovah"?
by Awakened07 inremember how it was always stressed how important it was to "have a personal relationship to jehovah"?
that those who got disfellowshipped or disassociated themselves because of what members of the org.
had said or done, or failed doctrine etc., wouldn't have done so "if they only had had a close, personal relationship to jehovah"?

The Bible - all heart (and kidneys), but no brains.
by Awakened07 in- the topic title is a little 'tabloid' i'll admit, but actually more literal than you'd think:.
a thought - or should i say memory - from my active jw days came to me, and that was the often mentioned 'fact' that jehovah is the god who "tries our heart and kidneys".
this was a very common expression used at meetings while i was growing up.
