The religion of Islam, esepecially itsradical elements, is known for violence and the resolve to kill all those who don't serve Allah. Sure, there are many conservative Muslims who don't behave or feel that way, but the religion encourages that type of thinking.
Do you personally know ANY muslims, or are you just repeating whatever the news media care to feed the public?
Does Christianity (just for an example) fare any better? Consider 2000 years of religious persecution and mass-murder in the name of Jesus.
How many people have been murdered in wars, with the homecoming murderers being applauded as heroes, and not a thought wasted on the victims? Writing this, I can't help thinking about the victims of the first and only nuclear bombs ever used in a war. How did people react?
What makes the muslim religion so different from all those other mass-delusions used to justify violence? Tell me.

I did not deny that. I don't even deny that the terrorists _could_ be muslim extremists. I resent the thinking in stereotypes, as in "the Palestinians" and more subtle, implicit forms like the original posting here.
It's just the kind of thinking that not only leads to the unspeakable acts of violence that we have seen today, but also to "surgical counter-terrorist strikes" on Somalian pharmaceutical plants.

I've had a great deal of sympathy for the Palenstinaians in the past, but it just ended.

I received a forwarded email from a friend's Palestinian ex-classmate, now living in Jordan. This person writes (quote): "we are not cheering on the streets, its a tragedy, we are afraid what is to come, my family is praying".
You don't see the silently shocked people on the streets. So you don't see them on TV. TV does not equal "reality".
Anybody who could rejoice at such tragedy is just plain sick.

Not so long ago, the "bad guys" in popular US films usually had a pseudo-Russian accent and drank lots of Vodka. Before that, the bad guys were blond, cold-blue-eyed and had a pseudo-German accent. These days, the cliche apparently is: unshaved, dark-haired Muslims shouting "Allah akhbar" at the slightest provocation and burning US flags as a daily ritual.

I do agree that religious fanatism is very harmful. But I'm seeing another pattern developing here that I've seen before, that I don't like at all, and the name is: racism.

I was already wondering that not one mention is made of _any_ feeling remotely comparable to sadness about the mass-extinction of billions of humans (obviously including even small children). Any sort of emotion like empathy.
But, silly me!, the story does tell us that a few survivors were "somewhat disappointed that some of their loved ones hadn't made it".

i had a very positive experience today which maybe not-so-coincidentally coincided with my recent comments on matthew 25.. it was only my second personal experience with babylon the grape in my entire life.
my first was when one of my daughters got married in a catholic church over three years ago.
i actually sat inside the catholic chapel and watched her priest perform the ceremony.

you're obviously going through rough times at the moment. I'm not very good at saying the right words at the right time, and since we're just on the Net here, you'll have to _imagine_ getting just a straight look in your eyes, a nod, a slap on the back, and one of my famous omelettes.
As regards your experience with the Catholic church, I agree completely. I'm living in a mostly Catholic country and have to read and listen to the idiotic, arrogant, stupid utterances of Catholic bishops quite frequently on the media. The Catholic Church has a lot of genuine, excuse my language, assholes in their leadership.
But then, I know of not one organization that spends so much effort on "loving their neighbour" as the church. Especially their charity branch, the Caritas. Many, many people are investing an admirable lot of time, money, effort on genuine help for people who need it. Unconditionally. Even with the quite fine social system we have here, without the church, there'd be not just a few homeless and starving people on the streets. I know one JW woman personally who left her violent husband with a child in tow, fearful, with just a handbag and her clothes on, not knowing where to go.
Guess where she found shelter? She got a room in a womens' house run by the Caritas, with warm food, medical assistance and people looking after her kid. Psychological assistance from a free psychosocial service offered by the city. Free legal assistance from a state-sponsored program.
Nothing, not one single thing makes me more upset about the hypocritical WTS-style "Christianity" than their refusal to help unconditionally. Just for the sake of helping people because they're fellow human beings, sharing the same damn planet.
