I was treated for anxiety and depression when I was about 12 or so. My mom took me to a psychologist, and my dad tolerated me going. I was too young to know or care about kingdom hall politics, but I do remember not being invited to the picnics, or other social things outside of the family.

How Were You Treated as a Jehovah's Witness if You Had Depression ?
by flipper inmost of us who were in the jehovah's witnesses for some time realize that for years the watchtower society had always discouraged it's rank and file members from going to see therapists, or professional counselors if they had depression, or serious chemical depression.
the watchtower society always told us to go out in service more, do more personal study, be more regular at meetings - and essentially we would lose our depression , and everything would fall right back into place.
the old, " don't worry, be happy " cliche.

I went to a political rally tonight
by B_Deserter init was the obama rally where john edwards announced his endorsement for obama.
i couldn't help but think about how the witnesses always brag about how orderly and clean they are when they get together, not like those heathens in the world.
yet, everyone was respectful and cooperative.

JW TERMS I CAN'T STAND
by str8?so is spaghetti..until you heat it up inthere are a few terms i cannot stand that jw's use and now i have to consciously convince myself not to use:.
1. the truth - um nothing could be further from being accurate.
2. worldly - as if they are 'other worldly' or 'supreme beings'.

I can certianly relate, but I don't have any answers for you since I am still looking for answers myself. I've always been socially awkward, I don't think I've ever completely shed the 'outcast mode' from being raised as a JW.
I'd like to be more sociable but I just fail in the execution. This is something I've thought about a lot and some of the problems I think I have is fear such as, fear of rejection, fear of being manipulated, fear of being perceived as manipulating. Things that occur that go counter to the fears have a x1 multiplier, but things that confirm these fears have a x1000 multiplier. I wish I could break out of this wall I've built for myself, but lately it just seems to be getting higher and higher. -

D. The earthquake occured there because of the FSM's wrath.
For Shichuan Chicken angers him, and his justice is swift.
Or maybe C. because of plate tectonics. D is more exciting though. -

Windfall taxes on Oil Companies - for it or against it?
by UnConfused ini'm for it.
they don't "need" to increase priced due to demand - they just can so they do.
when prices are at record highs and profits are at record highs....time to tax them for windfall profits i think .

Their profit margins aren't really all that out of line. Getting rid of the tax breaks that Bush and the Republican congress gave them would be a good idea though.

Is Obama Gay?
by sammielee24 innot an issue with me - but i wonder how many voters would turn against him if they found out he was?
the latest tabloid in check out lines has brought the sinclair scandal out into the public eye - and although i haven't heard it yet, i understand that rev manning has a damning video on youtube.
larry craig was vilified - would the same people who vilified him still vote obama in and why?

So that's where McCain's black baby came from in 2000. McCain and Obama had a secret muslim gay stem cell clone baby!

"Why does America always bomb other countries?", my son asked tonight.
by digderidoo infirst of all i do not want to turn this into an american bashing thread, that is not my intention at all.. i would like to hear americans opinions as to what my thirteen year old son asked me tonight.. on the way back from swimming tonight my two sons (13 and 11) and myself started talking about wars.
my 11 year old was the first to bring it up talking about wwi & ww2.
we had an interesting conversation about it, then the subject got onto nuclear bombs.

All world powers have tried to impose their vision of the world upon others throughout history. You don't have to go too far back when it was the UK killing Boers in South Africa, subjegating India, and even occupying a restive Iraq. It doesn't make it any less wrong it just seems to be the way it always has been, and continues to be.
