Just before I left JW, I started asking my friends since the door to door work in our area was absolutely fruitless...why keeping doing it since it was not effective. I did not get two answers that were the same. Some of the answers were (aside from the biblical command):
- We do it for ourselves, to be together with our brothers and sister. (Me: well that's not what the society says...it's suppose to be a life saving work)
- It is a witness to others observing us in the field...they know we are JW's and therefore making Jehovah's name known
- We're JW's, it's what we do
- Just do what I do, show up for meeting for service, then say you have calls and go to a different city for breakfast; learn to play the game.
There was no real effort to "make disciples." It was nothing but a routine, even for pioneers.
I cannot fathom much interest at all in France at this store front. Still wonder who the brains are behind it. I can't imagine anybody in a cosmopolitan, metropolitan area ever buying into the crazy JW teaching.

Really interesting. I wonder whose idea this is. Any insiders here know?
On one hand, it's smart to modern things up a bit. On the other hand, France...really? How much interest are they going to get there.
And so misleading. Nice Apply-ey looking modern store with a woefully puritanical belief system and outdated culture. Somebody needs to get some handouts over there outlining what JW's teach that is allowed in the bedroom...blood issue, shunning.

It was not a political rally - it was just as out of place as a religious sermon was.
Exactly. Very simple.

I'm here at work reading this. My blood is boiling.
Fantastic job team Candace.
POS religion. No wonder they are putting the Caleb/Spurlock videos out...damage control...they want to seem so "kid friendly."

Reports from JW's regarding the summer convention
by Lynnie inso, we're in the final countdown with the convention just over a month away.
i've talked to a few folks that have already attended it on the east coast and west coast and keep hearing that its the most up-building program they've ever been to.
seems the message is clear that we need to stop being so hard on ourselves and take time to appreciate the efforts we have put in and know that we are deeply loved.

They're already gone. Actually, just about anyone under about 35 or so is gone.
The ones under 18 are there because their parents are there.
The 18-34 ones who are left are in it for purely social reasons - business contacts, built-in vacation buddies, no-tell drunken revelry buddies, automatic baby-sitting buddies (for the young parents), etc.
Nobody under the age 40 gives a fraction of a hoot about doctrine or beliefs or policies.
So very true. I look every once in a awhile at groups of FB kids, now adults, I knew very well. They are traveling and having a blast socially. Pioneering in Italy, Hawaii, France...it's a good life. Frustrating for me to see them all still in...I need to stop looking.

Since you've left, are you still good friends with your bestest JW buddies?
by Julia Orwell inis it possible that someone has a jw friend who's very active in the congregation, knows you don't believe it anymore, and is still your friend?
i'm at the point where word is getting out that i'm not going to meetings anymore, and friends ask me if they'll be seeing me at the ca and i tell them i'm not going.
they want to know why, and what they can do to encourage me.

I have been able to keep one JW best friend. I think it's because she and I never really played by the rules, and we have always seen the BS with the organization.
That being said, I also do not try to influence her to leave. When I bring up issues I tell her to google it. I did send her the links to the Conti case to alert her to the issues her husband could be legally held accountable for if he became an elder. When I left the borg, I told her the same thing I told everybody, that I had issues with the corporation and it was between me and Jah. When she is asked about me she tells people we see each other and I'm happy. She is a very loyal person.
However, what I have noticed with others I've run into, is conversation really runs out when you don't have the organization to complain about. You realize that was the center of even your social life as a JW...complaining about people in the congregation, complaining about the meetings/service/conventions/elders...you name it. You realize how much richer conversation is now with exJW and the freedom to "think." They are well read and I learn so much from them...they have done the work, walked the walk. I can't talk about these things with my JWgf...she still is in Jah mode and thinks he is going to save the world. **sigh**
