The way that the "naughty" teenager twice called the "good" one self-righteous was a nice touch.
The flames didn't really work - maybe somebody should suggest the special effects dept of the WTS should either up their game or call it a day.
for years the gb has been creating these dramas for the conventions, trying to use the bible to provoke guilt trips and make the r/f obey, but none of those have the whole message they wanted to get across, meaning: "the perfect jw family".
so, they decided to create this non-biblical account and voila!
they have the perfect drama.

ive just heard a lovely interview with a lady who was brought up jw and eventually left.
nothing dramatic, but a real life story on national radio ,with a help line number afterwards.
I've never been especially impressed by Rachel Underhill & her somewhat dubious & contrived life history. Her links with psychics & spiritual healings doesn't really do anything for me , though it may strike a chord with some.
as heard at the district convention.
9 part symposium on how to display the fruitages of the spirit.
goodness.
The lamest experience at our DC was a pioneer who “struggled” with street work. She described the “persecution” (actually used that word) of people who walked past her & didn’t accept a tract (does the guy handing out the 50% “Golf Sale” leaflets view rejection in the same light?).
Anyway - her fantastic experience was that one person had accepted a tract & she had mentioned that there was an assembly coming up. He told her that he might attend. The sister said that she hadn’t seen him yet , but she hoped that he would turn up. (Yeh - like I hope the cheque from a long lost relatives estate turns up.)
That was it. I was waiting for the punch line , but it never came. “Wasn’t that a fine experience brothers.” Some scratching of heads & puzzled expressions. One person behind me actually laughed.
during the 1930's when the society was quietly moving jesus' presence from 1874 to 1914, it only seemed to ruffle a few feathers and most accepted this "brighter light.
" how could the society abandon 1914 and still keep most of its followers?
I also noticed that 1914 wasn't mentioned in the DC - even though there were numerous occasions that it could have been (the public talk was about Christ being King , for example).
at the recent dc the new meeting arrangement was mentioned just once, but not to give us further details on how the new meeting will be structured or how the r&f will be cared for.. .
instead the audience was urged not the second guess the gb, being advised to look at how well the spirit has directed the org up until now, so therefore it will do so into the future.. .
but the reality is the congregations are only just over 5 months away from this new meeting arrangement, yet they know little about how it'll actually affect them.. .
A friend was talking to Paul Gillies (UK Branch Committee) at a recent district convention who told him that "New York haven't thought out the full ramifications of this change" and told him that he had no idea what was going to happen & implied that some of the older GB were against the decision. I get the impression that the scrapping of the BS arrangement was some kind of impulsive reaction , perhaps influenced by lawyers. The new release talks about the Cong Book Study Arrangement , so this must have evolved after the book went to final press , sometime in the spring.
has this new article in the wt been discussed here yet?
if so i missed it.
anyway here are some selected quotes with my own thoughts.. bible scholars acknowledge that god's personal name appears in the old testament, or hebrew scriptures.
Good analysis Slim. Helpful & interesting.

The Bethel UK financial report stated that only 13% of these "loans" ever get repaid. With interest at 6% per year on the balance , they are effectively a donation. The WTS writes every couple of years to suggest that the loan gets turned into a donation - sooner or later most BOEs agree.
What annoys me isn’t so much that the WTS has made this change - no doubt they will claim that most other bible translations don’t use brackets & that it makes the reading & flow of the verses easier.
It is more that such a change is put through without any explanation. Why didn’t they put a small section in the KM (Question Box perhaps)?
It leaves the impression , accurate or not , that the WTS treats the r&f with minimal respect.
so the po confirmed what many on this board already know.
at latest round of co to elders meeting, the co quoted from the society outline.
any elder or ms who encourages college for his kids or others or who allows his children to go to college will no longer qualify.. he then asked if i was going to take the cos encouragement and reach out again to be an elder and get my hours on the ministry up.. i replied "i will never be an elder again - i strongly approve of further education and college and have been through college myself.
We had a similar meeting - ironically our CO is somewhat pro Uni so he watered down the official WTS line somewhat. An elder in a neighbouring cong who has a child in college is under severe pressure from some on his body to quit - despite him being one of the most competent & zealous elders in the cong.

A huge flip-flop from the early 90's where the WTS explicity said that parents who encouraged higher education should not be criticised.

w9211/1pp.17-18pars.9-10EducationWithaPurpose***How much education does a young Christian need in order to respect these Bible principles and meet his Christian obligations? This varies from country to country. By and large, however, it seems that the general trend in many lands is that the level of schooling required to earn decent wages is now higher than it was a few years ago. Reports received from branches of the Watch Tower Society in different parts of the world indicate that in many places it is difficult to find jobs with decent wages after completing simply the minimum schooling required by law or in some countries even after finishing secondary or high school.
10
What is meant by "decent wages"? It does not indicate highly paid jobs. Webster’sDictionary defines "decent" in this context as "adequate, satisfactory." What might be termed "adequate," for instance, for those who wish to be pioneer ministers of the good news? Such ones generally need part-time work to avoid putting "an expensive burden" upon their brothers or their family. (1 Thessalonians 2:9) Their wages might be termed "adequate," or "satisfactory," if what they earn allows them to live decently while leaving them sufficient time and strength to accomplish their Christian ministry.....
16 So when parents and young Christians today, after carefully and prayerfully weighing the pros and cons, decide for or against post secondary studies, others in the congregation should not criticize them. If Christian parents responsibly decide to provide their children with further education after high school, that is their prerogative.
i've heard the july 15th wt has new interpretations of jesus' parables - dragnet, mustard seed, leaven, etc.
has a pdf of it been posted yet?
or, perhaps i missed it?
*** kingom come bookchap. 11 p. 101 par. 10 Kingdom Illustrations ***When used figuratively in the Bible, leaven always has an unfavorable connotation
In para. 10 of this WT article, it is said: "In the bible "leaven" is often used to represent sin". Well spotted Ruth.
