  BRCI Conference Report

  okay everyone ... here are some highlights from this weekend's brci conference held in itasca, illinois, close to chicago o'hare airport.

  it was two full days, from friday at 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and sat.

  9:00 am to 9:00 pm.

  My surreal district convention

  well, i just got back from yet another summer ass-marathon.

  seventeen hours of sitting in hockey arena seats that were made for three hour games, trying to stay awake, while not losing contact with my extremities.. needless to say, the program was dull and boring.

  in fact, i'm not completely sure that they didnt just re-run last year's.

  double edge:

  The conventions are a HUGE part of borg life. The magazines and other pubs hammer away at the dubs for months ahead of time about attending them. Even though there are large crowds at the conventions, it would still be obvious to your home congo if you weren't there. This especially is true if some travel is required to get to the convention site, because everybody at the Kingdumb Hall would be asking you where you were staying and all. Also, much of the cleaning, etc. at the end of each day is done by the dubbies themselves, and congregations are assigned a certain area of the venue, another something that would cause your attendance to be missed. The convention is discussed a good bit for a couple of weeks afterwards, both formally in the way of meeting parts and informally in general conversation. Then it is forgotten about completely as the dubbers go back to their robot routine. Also, many of the elders, ministerial servants, and others are given volunteer assignments at the convention (parking, security, etc.) SO...if you are an active JW, it would be just about impossible to miss the convention and not have it noticed by the congregation police.

  but before i sell the house and move - i was just wondering how many of you are out there and your opinions of the area (i will need some new good association).

  also, i'm from the wilds of ny - do you think i can adjust to ohio?

  This past weekend was definitely the highlight of my post-jw life. The false picture that the WT paints of "apostates" is a crime. They are the most fantastic people I know. It's like, the best people come from the worst situations. One of the weird paradoxes of this life I guess. Take care, and tons of love to the ones I met there.

  BTW, this is off the subject, but I found out last year that many talks given at the conventions are known as "manuscript" talks - where the speaker gives the talk word-for-word as it came from Brooklyn, no outline or anything. Not only that, but another brother follows along to make sure that it is repeated exactly as written. Correct me if I'm wrong about this.

  It was that and the Korah Nadab & Abiram "don't question us, we're the annointed GB" drama that really got my head spinning after last year's convention.

  brci is holding its annual national conference near chicago, illinois on friday and saturday, june 28th and 29th.

  it will be held at the wyndham northwest chicago hotel, in itasca, il.

  if you are able to travel here or live in the general area, you can get directions to the hotel by calling 630-773-4000 9am - 5 pm central time.

  I was in ex-JW emotional hell a couple of weeks ago, so I called Marilyn Zweifel (1-800-why-1914), as I had spoken with her a few times before and she was a great source of comfort. I hadn't planned on coming to BRCI, but she practically begged...so I'm coming! I look forward to meeting you chap!

  JWs are most antagonistic

  have noticed in my brief time here that the disobedient (jws who associate with us here) are the nastiest, most antagonistic examples of what it is to not display christian love.

  i am sure most are ambivolent, confused, angry about the cult thing, without a full awareness yet.

  but i suggest, to all of us, that we will learn mroe from each other by maintaining respect for one another.
