Trump has the charisma of a jackhammer. I think the cult leader idea is hysterical.

jp I bet if you google "how Obama was like a cult leader", you will probably also find articles and books. There is no doubt about Trump shortcomings, but the idea that all the people who voted for him or even defend him in any way are brainwashed deplorables is nonsense.
If anything, despite being very wealthy, Trumps "human" tendencies probably make people feel more like he is average like them. Calling countries shitholes, not being polished. If I had to make a case for a cultish prez honestly I would say somehow Obama did it, Trump appeals to being "one of us" if you will.
I really don't believe the majority of even his supporters see him as "charismatic" they see him as a hard-headed blunt tool.

Sign I: His campaign is fueled by charisma.
Sign II: He’s a raging narcissist.
Sign III: What he says is always right. Even when it's not.Excellent, no other president has had the same signs lmao. I think you just described the person that always wins hahahahahah the basic three tenants of being a successful politician, be charismatic, love yourself too much and lie lie lie
Still doesn't prove how anyone who calls out people who complain about literally everything about him are cult members, if he does something dumb, you say "thats dumb", if he does something worthwhile, you say "thats worthwhile", it's not complicated.
trump is great at blurting out complete nonsense at almost opportune time that is so outlandish you wonder why he would say something so absurd, then you watch the mainstream media chase after it like a dog chasing the same stick over and over, and the news media is clogged for 24hours. "i had the most watched this or that EVER" oh my god, he's a madman lol. Trust me I don't like it either, but you all just keep feeding the troll, he's gonna keep trolling...

Here is a great take on this "your political views are a cult because you called BS on my leftist views"
All people are victims of cognitive bias, it is inescapable. Cults exploit this natural tendency we all have to an extreme. If you stand back and look at what is really going on in America's political landscape and war of ideology you WILL find the following.
Vast political identity groups, liberal, conservative, independent, libertarian, hybrids and so on. Now out of this great see of identities, you have this leftists "box" that has emerged. Is it different? why is it different? Who is in it?
I would say this box consists of:
- The democratic party leadership as it stands now
- Most celebrities
- 90% of the mainstream news media
- Many university folks, leaders, and students
- SJW's of all sorts
Now I put this together because they stand out as unique. How? Well from any of the groups I mentioned above, liberal, conservative, independent and other, if you step the least bit out of line with anyone (single) of their tenants, you are immediately ostracized and condemned to "right-wing" regardless of your group political identity.
Example 1:
When it comes to gender identity, I am liberal, I will call you by whatever pronoun you wish. However, I will tell you I am not for giving hormones to young children (even as young as toddlers) to transition their gender, I am also not for the government enforcing the use of these pronouns. Now, because i have an opinion that touches a "forbidden" conversation, I am now labeled Right Wing and a bigot. This new leftists box, everyone has to fall in line and check the boxes, there is no freedom of thought or discussion.
Example 2:
You are a Democrat leader, or perhaps a celebrity, you actually reflect internally the exact same scenario as above. But you WILL NEVER SPEAK IT. It doesn't check the box. It's a banned discussion and unspeakable. All ideas must fall in line!
Ok, so here we are, does the same exist outside this? Sure, the ultra-right wing may have a similar authoritarian bias, but they are not running Google and youtube, they are not 90% of the mainstream news media, they are not Hollywood preaching to you, they aren't teaching the future our the country at universities.
All those kicked out of this new BOX, are labeled right wing, regardless of being liberals, conservatives, libertarians, independents, they are just out, They expressed a forbidden thought, or asked a dirty question that can't even be discussed, so disfellowship the apostate. Now this nebulous group outside that leftist box, has all kinds of varying ideas on things that they do not necessarily agree on, but you know what common trait they are sharing? They are willing to discuss them and agree or disagree and continue on. The discussion isn't banned.
So you say on this board, in true lefists basic fashion, "oh you are all just cult members again" just like the news you watch where they try to cram complex issues into a few minutes of yelling down to each other because discussion of facts doesn't sell news.
I make the argument the Cult is this leftist box, it's not thinking for yourself, if you do you will find yourself outside pretty damn quick. You are not allowed. This has become an ideology of censorship and intollerance of any ideas that don't fall in line with its set agenda. Far stricter than anything I currently see from this proclaimed "right wing". There are tons of people out there exchanging ideas, some of them difficult to talk about, like this gender issue, and breaking them down into core principles and discussion, this open discourse is HATED by that left box. There are no "liberal" forums like this existing right now, period. Because the minute you openly have a real discussion, you are marked and shunned. You are no longer considered a liberal, case, and point, Dave Rubin.
I conclude this new PC, SJW, intolerant, things are all black and white, fall in line mentality is the cult mentality. I do not agree with many conservative ideas, some I do, but I see them as a group far more tolerant to simply have a discussion. So instead of your lazy whiny, cult mud slinging, why don't you take a look at that. Where is the shutting down of discussion coming from in this country??? where is the thought policing, that has silenced countless people thoughts and opinions??? Ruined public figures simply for having opposing views???
You my friends may be the ones in the cult

not fall for tribal ideology again
Please codify Trump ideology?
The very act of calling yourself a democrat or a republican is already teetering on the edge of the spiral, though perhaps if you are judicious enough, you can keep your level of sanity above water. Once you have committed yourself to the in-group, you will feel the inner pressure to conform, to defend your team, to buy into the alternate reality, to excuse the inexcusable, to fail to see the wrong when it's wrong, and failing to see the right when it's right.
I agree with that wholeheartedly and I am constantly against partisan thinking, I find the leadership of both parties to be shitweasels on the same level. I just happen to see now a great emergence (especially since Hillary lost) of a totalitarian left, the right just seems to be their business as usual.
My point again is no one discusses things on a policy level (extracted from tribal "sides"). Or individual philosophical ideas. If you don't agree with the leftists (current flavor of the day) view of Immigration policy you are "a racist, bigot, xenophobe, trump supporter, trump ideologue". Even if those ideas do not BELONG to Trump, but a deeper core concept that immigration should be more responsible. Simple, not complicated. You should be able to agree or disagree with anyone in either tribe on principles and values, when you give up that, you have crossed the groupthink line.
Based on my personality in tests, I am far more inclined to be liberal, but this modern left movement is not liberal, its anti-liberty and moving swiftly toward being totalitarian in nature.

I think you may be overstating this by assuming that anyone who supports trump, or even defends some of what he does or says as blindly following and agreeing with everything about him. I really don't see that. if for instance, he speaks of acts to a core value that made this country a success over its history, why does that have to be bad JUST because he is speaking it? To me, that is more biased and blind way of thinking than anything.
You can't cut through the nonsense and take everything on its own merit, it's just all good or all bad, that makes no sense. Black and white, good and evil us and them.
Trump talking about "clean coal" immediately sent off red bullshit flags in my head, and I said it as soon as he spoke those words. But when he is talking about showing respect and care for our military and our civil liberties, I have to agree with that! Its a value I have, and you probably have too.
I think the problem is the center, and a good part of the current right, are not expecting a perfect world, a utopian dreamland of fairness and equity. Study history, this only leads one place. I really don't see people accepting trump as all good, all knowing and all great, even his most ardent supporters, I think they just want to see outcomes. As mentioned time and again, the identity politics of the left gave birth to a pretty large group of people hiring a bully to punch back. You all act like the same country that elected Trump is not the same country that elected Obama... twice!! Clearly, there was great hope in Obama, and great disappointment as well by the end with the Democrats doubling down on the disappointing stuff and losing touch. They are more responsible for Trump than anything! thank the DNC, thank Hillary, Schummer and I don't see them trying to fix whats broken as we edge towards 2020

By now, using "cult mentality," "you're still mentally in the Organization," or "you're in a cult" snark to defuse counter-arguments is a stupid person's tactic.
It's only deployed by dumb, shallow thinking people who don't have a lot to go on other than their depressive insecure feelings and the toll that being rudderless antisocial ex-cult members have taken on them. The vitriol anti-trump rhetoric on here displays a lazy approach to debate, even though most all of us share the same core values, I see little addressing and disagreement in the range of values to policy. Trump is called, Hitler, he's called stupid, I understand all the reasons he's unlikable but these types of claims are lazy, ignorant hyperbole. You should just think he is these things because we do without backing them up with any facts. There is plenty to fault trump on, try to be rational about it.

Trump can be polarizing, but the most divisive crack in our country is identity politics being pushed into hyperdrive by leftists over the last few years. Everyone thinks Trump gave some rise to the other side of the identity political spectrum, the alt-right, but the alt-right is actually a cause and effect reaction to the incessant identity obsession of the left. Trump may be provocative, but the ugly face of white nationalism we can thank the socialist, dipsh*ttery of the left.
It's a natural process (not saying its right) & pushback that is inevitable when taking on this stupid Idea that people should be judged based on immutable characteristics, which is WRONG WRONG WRONG ALWAYS WRONG! White nationalists didn't start an uprising, this nonsense over the last few years spawned from BLM, womens marches with no purpose, and thinking that we should just open up the boards, it creating a polar effect that is not good. Identity politics is not right, the left fired the first shots, now the right has its idiots stepping up and it's going to be bad because they have a lot more guns.
The fight between this alt-left and alt right is not good for anyone, but it wasn't Trump, sorry kids. If you really want to take an objective look you will realize the uprising of this insane left that is anything but liberal and progressive anymore, has created the crack that Trump came out of, and the alt-right.
The politically correct, triggered, group over individual has screwed things up more than Trump could on his own, don't give him that much credit

I know that sticks in the throat of some to admit that Trump can actually do positive things but so far he is killing it in a way that Obama never came close.
Bottom line Trump is a fighter, not a politician, and the fact that he can be offensive is the worst sin imaginable now in this era of "speech is violence". In the now internet famous exchange between Jordan Peterson and Cathy Newman, he finally said what so many of us think,
“In order to be able to think, you have to risk being offensive,”
This new culture we have of speech is violence, victimhood is everywhere, equity of outcome is paramount, and identity politics is going to put us on the fast track to a dystopian shitshow that has been laid out time and again in literature and history as a massive failure.

Question: Why would the Romans torture & kill 10's if not 100's of thousands of people who chose to belong to an ideology that they themselves "engineered"?
*sigh*
ok... you are talking about what I would essentially consider a myth.
Just like most all of the "Jesus" story and everything associated with it, it was written later on to give substance to "fake news".
For instance, Tacitus a Roman Historian who wrote about the persecutions of the early “Christians”...these writings supporting the persecution were mysteriously found in the 15th century in the forests of Germany, following a reward offered by Leo X for old writings, and following a history of forgeries in Catholicism.
There are actually a lot of other references we could talk about for days on here to the myth of Christian persecution as you describe it. You are also assuming early Christian cults pre-Constantine are what we consider "Christian" today, what a very JW thing to think lol.
Whatever Christians were before Constantine, there was likely no great state-sponsored persecution as you claim, and the form that Christianity took post-Constantine (today as we know it), was an exercise in propaganda for political reasons.
can you imagine, someone lying for political reasons and making up stories???
