In the beginning there was simon...
I just wanted to look for hilarious stories from bethel or about crazy watchtower comments, then I thought how it felt good to see some people going through things the same way I did, and maybe I could benefit from them, and also somehow maybe say something that would touch someone, make them laugh, or just help them in anyway. And i was compelled not so long ago to sign up and post.

Thinking about thinking and upbringing
by ballistic ini was thinking about being "brought up in the truth" as opposed to joining.. as a child's brain develops, it builds connections based on what it is taught.
these connections are inseparable from the person in that our thoughts and memories actually become part of our personality (who we are).. a very simple example, might be being taught *not to do something* because it "displeases jehovah".
the understanding of right and wrong is then set in the child's mind and built upon.. there are several points of thought i have about this fact.

Morality should only be rooted in what harms others, religion (the three biggies from the Mideast) and the bible have made morals into something they were never intended to be. They call oxytocin many things, the love chemical etc, but one thing it is is the morality chemical. morality is a social thing that has dare i say evolved in us to make a stronger society by basically making us feel empathy for our community. This basic idea tells you not to steal or murder. All the other nonsense was man made to control and separate people. We may think of things like homosexuality or what have you as moral issues, but so was eating shellfish or pork when slavery was ok. The bible doesn't teach morals, it merely conditions follower on the backs of some good natural morals we have such as love your neighbor, don't murder and so on. There are prairie dogs of two different species, one has a brain partitioned differently than the other species. One has this community hormone going on and one doesn't. The one group they prairie dogs happen to be monogamous, why does one have it and not the other? who knows. But as humans with the bonding empathy hormone we are capable of great morality without a single rule from any book. There is a great TedTalk on oxytocin. "I had shown in the early 2000s that countries with a higher proportion of trustworthy people are more prosperous. So in these countries, more economic transactions occur and more wealth is created, alleviating poverty. So poor countries are by and large low trust countries. So if I understood the chemistry of trustworthiness, I might help alleviate poverty"...

Why are JW talks & publications never uplifting?
by thedepressedsoul ini was sitting at the meeting the other night and for the first time it hit, jw talks or magazines are never uplifting!
i rarely, if ever hear a talk or read a magazines and have it give nothing but praise to jehovahs servants or just praise jehovah and jesus throughout it.
they never just a read through the bible or just a bible story explained or told.

Salvationists creed, you are wonderful, but a worthless sinner in need of redemption you can't get on your own. One of the oldest snake oil sales since the last ice age

Interesting statement made by CO. Is this new?
by stillin inin his first talk of the week the co mentioned that people don't get df'd for joining the military or registering to vote because they are already gone, as compared with smoking secretly, which would merit df'ing.. i have been toying around with registering to vote in the next election (us) so this intrigues me..

Register to vote is ok Some states turning 18 it's part of something that happens. You are registered. Or eligible to vote if you chose and the same with turning 18 and turning in your military registration that says you can be drafted. Neither of these things constitute voting or joining the military. That action of being drafted or joining freely or voting will get you 86'd -

Biblical scholar claims to have found the oldest known Gospel — inside a mummy mask
by opusdei1972 init would only add evidences for what many scholars on textual criticism affirm, namely, that mark was the earlier gospel, and that it was most probably written after or around 70 a.c.. .

This is very interesting. If it uses the Greek word for 'God' as do later versions that have clearly been altered in the orgs opinion,( but of course nothing else except taking out gods name). That would essentially prove that in the original version they in fact did not use the name 'jehovah'. -

Books/texts/scriptures mentioned in the bible , though not incorporated in the bible cannon .
by smiddy inif a bible writer / scribe refers to a particular book text or scripture by name , for one reason or another, shouldn`t that be a legitimate reason for including it in the bible cannon as a part of the bible ?.
just how many texts , books, scriptures are left out of the old testament bible that are mentioned there in and how many, if any are their in the new testament..

Meetings are mind numbing. The watchtower should be 15 minutes to 30 at best. (Still a waste) . This crap is beat into the heads of everyone each week never anything new. I feel they stretch it as hard as they can. Just like everyone does with their field service time
