Wives With Unbelieving Mates
by minimus ini knew many witness wives with unbelieving mates who pretty much led a double life.
“my husband says i have to go the workplace christmas party.” or my mate tells me i have to make a thanksgiving dinnner.
or “ my mate insists i do things in the bedroom that i know the watchtower has talked against.

Sorry, I should have clarified jw man with ubm wife. He is still in the same boat as some of the jw wives with ubm's as he can use me as an excuse for everything. The house is decorated with Christmas lights? yep, the wife put them up. No, she doesn't listen to me about me being the 'head'.

It is weird what a jw will do and not do year to year. Much depends on how close a holiday is to conventions and assemblies or who they happen to be hanging out with at any given moment. Or a current mag or should that be video now? That's all I can tell, we do not discuss jw things anymore. If I host a holiday dinner he will be there, if a family member does, then he won't. Then there is always the non-birthday birthday/Christmas gifts, you never know year to year. One year you get the non gift gift and the next you won't.
As for bedroom activities, they should not be up for discussion with anybody and it makes my skin crawl to think it might or could be topic of discussion. eeew, shudder, no need for a cold shower! just think of your sex life being discussed with a bunch of them! thanks Min, now I gotta get that picture out of my head. How on earth does a topic like that even come up? nevermind, some things in life you are better off not knowing, like how hot dogs are made......

PORTUGAL: Filed a petition to the parliament to erase the legal entity of the Jehovah's Witness
by EdenOne inbased on legal arguments that revolve around violations of several articles of the portuguese constitution, and of the law of religious freedom, a petition to the portuguese parliament has been set in motion to extinguish the legal entity that represents the jehovah's witness in portugal and remove this community from the national register of recognized religions protected by law.
the petition does not seek to ban the jehovah's witness as a whole in the country.
the petition denounces the institutional policy of shunning former members as a violation of basic human rights and psychological torture, and asks the portuguese legislators and judicial authorities to take action to stop this abuse, and suspend legal recognition to the branch office entity until the policies of shunning are changed.

When I say joined I mean exactly that, he made a conscious decision to join this insidious group. Some people 'join' a gym, join a bookclub, etc... he happened to 'join' a cult. Yes, he was baptized and remains in 'good standing'. Did they trash me? You have absolutely no clue what me and my entire extended family went through with these people. Am I bitter about jw's? yes. Some things I do not go into here because just like many on this board I do not need any added trouble from them.
Do you really think only past and current members have horror stories to tell about jw's? You have no idea the hell my family went through because of jw's and the choices my grown ass husband made.
Is it possible to get on with things and for things to improve as a ubm? yes, as I have stated here many times before. Things can get better and even go on to have good times with your jw as I have said numerous times before. However, for those who have never had any contact with jw's, don't know any and your spouse decides to join this group, life will never be the same as pre jw days and that is a fact. It will affect your marriage, your children's life, parents, siblings, in-laws, nieces & nephews, friends, everybody!
Are there times he does not seem to get the 'memo' from dubland? yes, more times than I can count. This still happens even after all these years.
Is it possible he simply used 'theocratic warfare' on me? without a doubt, jw's are taught to lie to those who don't 'deserve' the truth (see the Aid book)
I still maintain that before his baptism he still thought shunning was a very rare occurrence and all of you (apostates) were liars making things up or just wanted to live 'sinful' lives.
What year was the 'Organized....' book used? Was it in use when he got baptized? is it still in use now? You know what? none of that even matters. You could have Jesus Himself come and sit down with a jw and try and explain things but unless a jw is ready, on their own, they will not believe anything else. They must come to the conclusion themselves.
As for the petition and any news story, I know it will not change the mind of a jw but it may stop others from giving them the time of day when they knock on their door.

Raising children - thoughts

i grew up in the jw faith / cult - .
i can’t prove i am a better person because of it , but in some ways i can prove how it has damaged me.

As an outsider I can only go by what many have said here and elsewhere about growing up jw. I see the trauma, the PTSD and all the emotional and spiritual damage that is directly related to growing up as a jw.
That being said, there is plenty in the 'world' that also produces all of the above but in this case the jw religion/cult is clearly a cause for those who suffer the effects. In the outside world it could be school, bad parenting, other religious extremes, the world at large, addictions and so forth. I guess in the case of jw's at least they can pinpoint the cause and hopefully deal with it from there.
Thankful I was able to keep my kids far away from this abusive cult.

When my jw joined he was NOT told many things! I told him many things, printed out from the old Quotes site, many of your stories here, news stories, etc... He would then go to the elders about some of it and they would minimize what I had said, said it was out of context, refused to let him see the actual books the quotes came from and on and on. It was like WW3 here between me, the elders and a very confused and gullible (?) man. I then spent a small fortune buying a few old jw books and some reprinted (example-Millions book) from Freeminds and elsewhere but by then he wouldn't look at them and he and the elders claimed an apostate probably made them and changed them to make jw's look bad.
Let's take his baptism for example, they had already changed the wording to being baptized into the org and not Father, Son and Holy Spirit only. I brought this up to my soon to be baptized jw and what the real implications would be. He naturally brought it up to his 'study' guy and they again downplayed it because I was a ubm, a spiritual danger, etc.... not only that, but satan was in me according to the elders. They also told him that he may have to separate from me and the family if it continued, meaning my trying to tell him the truth about jw's. So yes, maybe he was not told all the rules because they were too busy trying foil my attempts to get him to think and question. As you well know they held out a carrot even his wife could not compete with, a chance in paradise earth.
Is shunning coercive? yes, I believe it is. If the choice is to follow a written rule/law of an organization or to possibly lose all your loved ones, job and even your home then you are being coerced.
From online dictionary- coerce-persuade (an unwilling person) to do something by using force or threats.
obtain (something) by using force or threats."their confessions were allegedly coerced by torture"If the organization has only an unspoken rule about shunning then there is not much one can do. If a country bans such practices and a person loses everything due to organizational policies at least the person may have some recourse in at least retaining their job and home. Not much luck with loved ones though.
Baptism as a minor with all that entails for a jw is unconscionable. In other churches that even practice infant baptism it is not such an issue. For example, a person was baptized in say a Methodist church and later left to join a non denominational church there would in all likelyhood be no repercussions for that person at all in either the family, job or home situation. Clearly not the case with a jw.
While I agree that love and human decency cannot be legislated I still applaud the negative publicity the petition will bring upon jw's as small as that may be.

"JW's is very well aware of the JW rules"- NO, they are not nor are they told in no uncertain terms exactly what the rules are. When my jw joined up he was not told about all the rules. As for shunning he was told 'some' people may shun but it is very rare. Through time in the borg he found out that shunning is 'loving' and all the further brain washing speak and now thinks it is 'helpful' to families. How damn screwed up is that?!
If jw's were honest at the doors they would say something like this- Would you like to join our group? we have our own interpretation of the bible and not only that but we have rewritten it in places we don't agree with. We expect the following from you if you join-
We will control how you-
spend your time
dress
hair
facial hair
blood transfusions
your sex life
what you watch, music and what you can read
who you associate with
who you may talk to
no holidays or other celebrations we deam wicked
how many pillows you may have (ha, just kidding had to add that)
this is just a start of how we will control your life. Should you break any of those rules you will suffer the consequences which may result in some or all of the following:
bullying by the elders to get you to comply
the silent treatment from the congregation (you have been marked)
shunned by all
These are just a few of the consequences.
So, should we sign you up?
That would be an honest spiel at the doors.
Any negative press about jw's is good press. Bring it on

I am not able to download the documents (shared computer). In re: to the 'answer sheet'- could that be used as a tool to find apostates? or independent thinkers?
