Agreed, it would be great if we could have a trade with another group wouldn't it? jw apostates or even current jw's who also agree could sign another relgions petition in exchange for their members signing ours. Probably not realistic though.

"After you publish the petition, it’s up to you to promote it and get others to sign. You’ll get an automatic email once your petition is published that you can forward to get started. Remember you have just 30 days to get 100,000 signatures in order to get a response from the White House. And it’s up to you to get to 150 signatures in order for your petition to be publicly searchable on the We the People tool on WhiteHouse.gov."

So which religion IS actually correct?
by punkofnice ini read plenty of threads here.. what amazes me is how each 'theist/believer' is totally convinced that their way/cult is the correct one.
even xtians are not in agreement over doctrine.. ok. so i've heard the excuse that it's the devil's fault..............but come on.............what a cop out.. is god so incapable of giving a consistant message of which is the true way?.
i'd tend to think god doesn't exist and it's just the thoughts of deluded people with deluded ideas.............otherwise the real truth would be obvious.. god is really powerless if it/she/they/it have to rely on the game of chinese whispers..

That pesky free will thing Punky. I do not think jw's and some ex jw's can necessarily understand the whole 'free will' concept.
"What amazes me is how each 'theist/believer' is totally convinced that their way/cult is the correct one"-- Depends on the 'believer' you know I guess. I know many Christians who suggest reading the Bible and may ask you to their church but are not dogmatic about going to 'their' church for salvation or even that their church is the 'right' one. Christians do not fuss about what they call 'non salvation' doctrines. Some issues will never be settled or agreed upon. What does tie Christians together is the birth of Christ, His life, His death upon the cross and His resurrection all the rest is often debatable, obviously.
We are individuals and what works for one person may not work for the next (re:churches, styles, spirituality, etc..) Just like your kids need different teachers and often different parenting techniques, we as individuals will take/need different and very individual spiritual paths. Different need not mean better or worse (though it often can as in the case of cults) you make your choices unless you were born in to something (jw's). Then you, as an adult must make the very painful choice of leaving a spiritually abusive cult for your own sanity but losing your loved ones. Doesn't seem fair does it? Why does God allow it? free will? (pretending for the moment you believed in a Creator)
Humans prefer free will, wouldn't God also prefer free will over obligation? I know I do, I much prefer to spend time with people who by their own free will choose to spend time with me rather than out of any sense of obligation. Just my random thoughts on the matter.

The kindness of (worldly) strangers
by moley inyesterday i went surfing, when i had finished and got changed i tried to start my car, no joy.
there were about 12 cars in the car park and the occupants of 8 of the cars all tried to help out at some point as they could see i was having difficulties, one guy even drove to a garage 5 miles away to get me a coffee i didn't even ask for as it was a freezing cold day and a couple of them let me sit in their cars to warm up while i waited for the rac.
contrast this to a time when i was in and my car wouldn't start (different car lol) in a kh car park and all i got was snarky comments, or advice in passing but no one stopped to help out.. i know who i prefer, has anyone else been helped by the evil worldly's while ignored by the loving jw's.

I'm just trying to figure this part out- "yesterday I went surfing............it was a freezing cold day"
How cold could it be if you were surfing? It's all relative I guess, really cold is how the weather has been around here lately minus 20- minus 40 with the wind chill. It is a balmy nearly 20 out today! Spring is on the way!
Glad you were not left stranded.

My jw cannot/willnot listen to Christian pop/rock either. I find it quite amusing when he is going through the stations in the car and leaves one on and seems to enjoy it until he figures out it is indeed a Christian rock song! aaagh! quick change the channel! good grief, he can't change it fast enough then. Don't worry, I smirk the other way so he doesn't see.

Your children need your protection from many things in life, their mental/spiritiual/emotional well being is among them. Please protect your kids from the cult and what appears to be grandparents that have only their own best interests at heart.
If you allow her to see the kids in YOUR home set ground rules before and let her know if she breaks them that is it, she will no longer have access or news about the kids. She must treat all of you with love and respect, talk, joke and eat with all of you. If any mention of anything jw is brought up it will be time for her to go. No jw literature of any sort is allowed in your home at any time and so on.
Never, ever leave your kids alone with her for a second! do not trust her. If you need to go to the bathroom make sure your spouse is there while you are gone. jw's will try to take advantage of even that short absence for indoctrination or to get information out of a kid. I have seen it done.
If you really feel your kids are missing out by not being around elderly people maybe you could adopt a grandma/and or grandpa from a local nursing home or in your neighborhood. There are countless lonely elderly people around who would love to have somebody in their life who cares and who they can love and spoil.
Protect your innocent chilren, it's your job.

Sunday School etc....
by quellycatface ini have never understood why the jw's did'nt have a sunday school or some kind of educational thing going for children.
it seems pretty selfish and antiquated.. i remember growing up, i was terrified of "satan" and "the demons".
not forgetting the "jehovah is watching you" crapola.. i think it's wrong letting young kids listen to fairly adult themed talks, items etc....it's got to affect them mentally.. any thoughts?.

ShirleyW's response is one main (one of many) reason I never let my kids step foot in a kh. When I tell people about jw's that comes up and people are appalled! many think the leaders/speakers/elders should be arrested for exposing minors to such explicit age-innappropiate talks.

What allows parents to shun their children ?
by man in black inmy son, went to college and got his bachelors degree.
he started his own anmation company about two years ago, and it really has taken off.. while my wife and i were witnesses, we both received grief about allowing our son to go to college, but we stood up for him and backed his decision to attend 110%.. anyway, this past week he finally closed on a very nice, neat condiminium .. and while he is getting ready to move out on his own, i have quite a few feelings of sadness,as a parent, seeing him move on is kinda rough, but realizing that this is a very good thing for him makes it easier.
he will only be about 7 miles away.

Congratulations to your son and to you! Sounds like you raised a fine young man.
If jw's believe in the Bible, do they have Matthew 5:14-16 in their Bible?
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
My question is, how do jw's reconcile the above and their extreme shunning policy? When they cloister themselves away and people cannot see their 'light'? I asked a jw this once but got no response, I mean none! they looked at me as if I made the scripture up myself!
jw's tend to stay away from worldly people, shun their non believing relatives so just how do they give a good example of everyday living? do not tell me that going door to door is the way because so do the Fuller Brush men/women, vacuum sales, magazine sales, girlscout cookies, etc.... they do not show how they live day to day.

I think the apostates need to have a tailgate party at Miller Park that day! (err, 2 days I guess) They couldn't stop it could they? There is a restaurant open to the public at Miller Park so they don't get the whole stadium & parking lot to themselves.

Could i possily be one of the sealed?
by msconcerned ini went to the meeting last night, (with the start of a beard) and going throught he book study i had a thought.
god our "heavenly father" wants us to have a personal relationship with him because he is love.
well my brain disconnected from this thinking because if the bible was "written primarily for the anointed" and the benefits in the bible can only be mine because of "association" with the anointed, then i can never have a personal relationship with god or jesus.

Can you show where the Bible is only for the 144,000 to begin with? (using a non perverted wt Bible only)
It is only cults that tell you that you must be associated with them to gain salvation, understand the Bible, lead a good moral life, etc...
