  stuff goes up AND down. There are a zillion factors, im not a scientist and its far more cmplex than the simplifications presented here.

  Really? It is simplified here because I am not an expert and you are a simpleton,

  so it makes sense to approach it this way :-)

  Like i said if it were that simple and the future waas that grim then surely one gov would change their ways but there hasnt been one.

  This is not an unusual situation. The number of scientists who believe in evolution compared to the general public is similarly out of sync.

  Basically you have an anti-science approach to life, and thats OK - just so we are all clear on how things look to you. You are entitled to your own beliefs and opinions, but not your own facts.

  YOu show me a 100 years of temps as proof, and say thats proves it but when i look back 10000 years thats not enough there are excuses. That hardly sounds solid and your selective authority to some data and not others seems weak.

  No actually - the graphs I presented were in rebuttal to your cherry-picked claim that Australian weather over the last few years had been "the least hot" as if that somehow is of interest in the context of climate change over decades.

  Climate has varied indefinitely - I didn't offer excuses - I presented the reasons for the scientific consensus on why climate has varied. if you chose to interpret that as 'excuses' then that is your ideology coming into focus.

  I asked why is it different this time and why is it a calamity this time round and why are we blaming man kind almost exclusively. Theres a difference.

  yes it is - climate change theory is very well understood with a high degree of certainty as to causes. If you chose to hold a minority view (3%) then you should explain why you know better than 97% of climate scientists. I haven't seen your explanation yet.

  Lets be clear - the burden of proof is with you as you hold a minority (3%) opinion.

  So yes I can legitimately appeal to authority, as the 97% are recognised experts and hold a consensus view.

  Again - what is your basis for holding a 3% opinion?

  You cant actually take a look at any data and talk it thru.

  You have asked why temperature has varied over geologic time frames before human activity. I have explained how that works, and provided links for further reading.

  In other words your bland text about volcanos is nonsense, and yet its so clear for you. The best you can do is claim to authority.

  The text was not specifically about volcanoes, it was about the various forces that affect climate, of which volcanoes are one. If you are saying you read that article and concluded it was about volcanoes then I think we are done here.

  First of all you claimed it was "basic stuff everybody knows" and now you claim it is "nonsense" - which is it? Neither, it's actually "barely above high school level"

  it doesnt discuss the very question you attemptd to answer about the higher temps 10000-5000 years ago.

  It actually does if you are able to read it with comprehension. In summary climate responds to the dominant forcing at that time - could be solar, could be volcanoes, could be Milankovitch cycles - the point is that nothing explains current warming other than human activity.

  The best you can do is claim to authority.

  There is nothing wrong with legitimate authority where consensus exists. How would you chose a heart surgeon if you need a triple bypass? Would you find one of the 3% of heart surgeons that don't take a mainstream approach to surgery? Authority is the only rational approach for non-experts like me.

  Please explain to me why you are better qualified than the 97% of climate scientists that accept human activity is the cause of climate change.

  Meantime, you have the burden of proof - by accepting a 3% minority position you should explain to JWD why you are better qualified than 97% of climate scientists to hold your minority position.
