i'm brand spanking new to this forum.... my story is a long one that i will save for rainy day....however i will say i have been out for a long time 10+ years and when i left i really left.
i walked away at 20 (in my heart i was mentally gone at 17) and never really looked back much.
i was raised jw my father was an elder my mother an off and on pioneer (my father is no longer except he goes to the memorials, poor bastard and again thats another long story) i was not shunned by my parents both of whom were still very much in although my father left shortly after me and i would like to think that my bravery and courage allowed him to do the same.
Welcome to the forum - hope you find what you are looking for here.

it's the type of highly-desirable family home that is well beyond the reach of many middle-class professionals.
Yes I would say that the problem is that too many people are not being paid a decent wage, and the people at the top are being paid too much. This results in people feeling it is not worth their while to work. Maybe you should be making a fuss about that instead, because if there wasn't that problem then people may feel more motivated to work. And again on the topic of having children, they say it costs £100,000 to keep a child over a their childhood, if that is true then most people should never have children. But as I know it costs a lot less than that. I personally don't see why there is so much a fuss being made with regard to this family, considering the amount of government officials there who happen to be earning over £70,000 a year, and basically they aren't worth that in my opinion. Remember what I say, I'm not to fussed what you say in response, its only your opinion, and mine to me is worth twice as much, this is something you learn when you take a degree in psychology :P! Faery
Your first point about people not being paid a decent wage to me doesnt make sense as the National Minimum Wage rises considerably each year - if people want more money then they should get better qualifications and get a better job! Its not rocket science. The family concerned have been incredibly irresponsible having so many children and this is a completely seperate issue from those people who are on benefits whilst they look for work or are too ill to work. The benefits system is there so that those who are between jobs or those that are too poorly to work get what they need to tide themselves over. It should never be a persons intention to rely entirely on benefits as a way of life. This would only the case where someone was so ill they cannot work again and in these cases society have a responsibilty to ensure that these people have a certain level of existence. I dont believe the people at the top predominantly are paid too much - in my view its about how much value is added by that person to the organisation they work for. If they add more value than they are taking then why shouldnt they earn a sum commensuate with their skills, responsibilities and experience? The family we are speaking of though add no value to the system and just bleed it dry. Where is the sense in that? I am quite surprised that despite your graduate status, you have failed to see the distinction between these two situations and judged between them. In as far as those with disabilities go, they now have more rights than they ever had both in terms of education, society generally and the workplace. Most of the effects of disabilities can be reduced in the workplace by adjustments made by an employer and this has encouraged a great deal of disabled people to venture into the workplace - most people with a disability want to work and are able to do so. The government of course should provide when they are not able. Gary

The family is not receiving that much money, considering they have 12 children.
They shouldnt be receiving any in my view - if they want to have 12 children they should have means to pay for them and provide for them properly.
Years ago 12 children were a large family, but not unbelievable. Large families were the norm. No one thought they were "breeders' for doing this. Children were a blessings, not an embarrassment.
Back then, people only had children if they could afford to raise them - they didnt expect the government to pay for it - which is perhaps why the 'large family' of yester year has diminished.
What annoys me is that those in dire need of assistance such as the elderly and the infirm lose out. Elderly people dying in winter because they cant afford to put the heating on is ridiculous when you have a family of two adults plus 12 kids who refuse to work bleeding the government dry. The desrepair of our 'state pension' is largely because the benefits system is abused by such freeloading bastards.
What annoys the fuck out of me is that this family will receive over the next 16-20 years what equates to £1.5m or $3m in benefits plus a house worth £500k or $1m.
One family - £2m in benefits - go figure and then tell the widower war veteran pensioner why he cannot have a state pension that covers bare necessities.
I have a good job, good salary, but I am on a constant treadmill to maintain this lifestyle and my job is never secure unless I excel at what I do. It makes me mad to think that this family do not have to worry about maintaining the lifestyle they do - they just fill in the forms and it all gets paid directly into their bank account on a fortnightly basis. They dont even have to go to the post office anymore on a monday morning to collect it - lazy bastards!
Most self respecting families work, look after their children and maintain a lifestyle according to their means which they fund directly out of their efforts. This family does half of this and yet has everything on a plate - go figure!

No children of mine will be lazy freeloading bastards.
As soon as they reach the age of 5 they will be sent up the chimneys cleaning; failing that they will be in the workhouse washing by hand, scrubbing floors and generally ensuring that Dawn and I can live in a style we have become accustomed to.

Who will be the firemen, teachers, doctors, nurses, carers etc of the future? More to the point, who will be the parents of the future? Doesn't seem to be many volunteers these days.
And the chances of these 12 children actually stepping upto the mark and being any of the above is about the same as me winning the national lottery this week (given that I dont actually play it). All they will know is that they can do what they want, when they want and someone else will pick up the bill.
I agree that parenthood is a tough job but I think it is a choice you should make taking into account your personal circumstances and not in reliance upon society to pay your way.
These 12 children are not a contribution to society at all, there are a drain upon it and they will probably always will be; lets face it, the chances of them going to university will be slim. Whereas a couple who decide to have a responsible family will be able to make provisions for their children when they leave school and ensure that wherever possible they have the best start in life. Children from such a background have a better chance of contributing to society rather than plundering its resources.

They have at least managed to produce 12 potential, future tax payers. It may well be, that in the end this family will have contributed more to British society than their 'hard working' neighbours, who after all, are only working hard to line their own pockets. Why should anyone unfortunate enough to be at the bottom of the wages pile have to do without?
This is complete bollocks.
The 12 children come from a household that doesnt instil in their offspring the requirement to work and pay ones own way - the chances of them actually being a tax payer is actually very slim. In as far as contribution is concerned they dont know the meaning of the word and neither do you if this is what you truly believe.
People generally bear as many children as they can afford and are responsible about family planning whereas this family given the governments poor policy on such issues, have chosen to be irresponsible and contribute only to bleeding the country dry.
I believe that a shelf stacker at a supermarket should be paid a wage which represents their qualifications to do the job as well as the work duties and responsibilities they undertake. I wouldnt work 50 hours a week, under immense stress, dealing with incredibly complex issues if I got paid a wage similar to those paid to shop workers. I wouldnt go to university and seek higher education if the end result was minimum wage - why should I? Why should anyone?
To suggest there shouldnt be a pay gap to the extent there is, is ludicrous.

after very little discussion and even contact with my parents in the last few months, they seemed to decide, either for themselves, or maybe they were put up to it, to confront me on my view of the watchtower society and condemn me, my husband and children to death.....any time soon.....when armageddon comes.
i'm afraid they continually called me an apostate and told me how apostates are , 'evil, horrible, bad and satanic people!
' i asked them if they knew what an 'apostate' was and why they didn't look the word up in the dictionary.
Sorry to hear of your parents Gill - sadly they allow the book publishing company control them rather than their human and natural instincts.
Glad you are so philosophical about it all though.
Keep smiling!

our fun-loving friend, nvrgnbk, has turned somber and apologized for "everything.
" i, too, am an unwitting transgressor and owe many apologies, mostly for things i'm sure i don't even remember i did.. let us all apologize here, and then begin an absolution thread, so we've all cleared the air and everyone is forgiven by everyone else.. i'll start:.
i'm sorry.. penitently,.
I am sorry for not feeling guilty anymore so I feel therefore that I must apologise for not feeling guilty
