Well, judging by the letter of December last year, it seems the GB keep COs in the dark about the true reasons for the cutbacks as much as the rest of us. The COs are not given much privileged information on the subject at all, at least not in written form. Just patted on the head, told everything is fine, and keep working your socks off whatever you do. -

How many more such secret documents are there? Does anyone have names of as yet unleaked books or any rough ideas of subject areas?
They are:
Pioneer Book
Elders Book
Branch Book
Correspondence Book
Circuit Overseer Book
Is there anything else?

Thanks 88JM it will be very interesting to see which ones disappear in the coming years.
Do you happen to know of any Scottish congregations that existed in the past that are now defunct?
I have a list of congregations from the 1970s I intend compare with this list when I have time.

My "best" friend (active JW) has just died
by Terry injohnny santa cruz and i met around 1959 at a movie theater in fort worth, texas.. the purpose of that meeting was to create a fanclub for horror movie director william castle.
a week or so later, johnny stopped me as i was walking home from elementary school.. "hey--i think i know you.
weren't you at the william castle fanclub thing?".

Sorry for your loss and thanks for sharing the experience. What an interesting human perspective on how one gets mixed up with the JWs Terry, and how feelings about the whole thing can be somewhat ambiguous; a heady mixture of excitement and dispointment, real human connection along with a disturbing lack of the same. -

Religion, a part of the American way of Life.
by Gorbatchov infound this picture on the twitter account and it makes a wider perspective to me.. the jw religion is so part of the american way of life, just like the other religions in the us.. in the jw growth rate country's there is a market for this "better" life.
the religion makes it possible.. western europe had that marketing mix need after world war 2 and maybe a part of the cold war.. see the picture, and you know, the similarities with the jw religion, the change will be in details and not fundamental.. gorby.

For decades sociologists talked about the United States as being the exception among developed nations in that it hadn't become secular like Europe, Australia and Canada. In recent years however the United States has begun to secularise also: fewer attend church, or identify with a faith group, and more describe themselves as irreligious.
Some have suggested this trend began around 1990 and accelerated after 9/11 offering the following explanation. During the Cold War, when Russia was the enemy, America defined itself as being opposed to "Godless communism". American commitment to faith was thus connected with its opposition to the Soviet Union. When the Soviet system collapsed in 1990, so did one pillar which helped support American commitment to faith, their opposition to "Godless communism". Then when the terror attacks occurred in 2001 the new enemy was defined as "religious fundamentalists". This further weakened support for religion of any kind in America, as the enemy was now defined as religious rather than atheist.
All of this is on top of the regular processes of modernisation which tend to weaken the social power of religion.

Would be good to compile a list for Scotland too. Will be very interesting to keep an eye on where congregations are merged or abandoned as the overall number begins to decrease. -

Commercial activism.
by Ben131895 inin his last couple of vlogs, john cedars is wearing a t-shirt saying shunned.
some people liked it and asked him if they could purchase one.. in his last vlog (#111) he is advertising it and mentioned the link www.apostee.com, based in the us.
comments attached to vlog # 110 mentioned the fact that this company will close in april and that the business will be continued by cedars itself, who has also a stock of anti-witness items.. besides that, he was not the owner of jwsurvey.org, but since january 16, 2016 he is.. it looks (as mentioned before by simon in an earlier thread), this guy is making a living from his activism, a paid career.. one should seriously question his true motives, demonstrated in his activism.

From what I gather Randy Watters made a living from his activism for a number of years. There was nothing wrong with that. He did an excellent job. Making money is not a sin. What matters more is how you go about it and what impact you are having. There are more objectionable things about Lloyd Evans' approach than the fact that he makes some money. Highest on the list being his disregard for people who got DFed as a result of the Facebook fiasco a few years ago. On the other hand some of his videos are excellent. -

Confused: What does the overlapping generation really mean?
by MicaSmith incan someone help me understand how the wt came up with the overlapping generation theory?
i just don't understand it even though i read the information several times.
it's bewildering.

It's the biggest load of nonsense the WT have ever produced. The more you try to understand it the less sense it makes. It's as if they formulated pure nonsense as a test just to discover who would accept it and pretend it makes sense. Really, trying to understand the overlapping generation "teaching" will only result in a sore head. -

JW Chef Refuses to Cook Black Pudding
by cofty insainsbury's has been forced to apologise after its jehovah's witness chef refused to serve a customer black pudding with his full english breakfast.alan mackay was stunned when he was told he could not enjoy the staple, made up of animal fat, blood and oatmeal, with his meal at the branch in arnold, nottingham.after receiving his incomplete dish the former police officer was told the black pudding would not be served because it was against the religious beliefs of the chef to do so....

I can't find any dictionary that makes such a distinction - that it's only bigotry when you dislike someone for what they are rather what they do. In fact Cambridge online dictionary states that a bigot is someone who, "doesn't like other people who have different beliefs or a different way of life".

Impossible to tell but irresistible to speculate. It depends on your terms and definitions too.
But are there large numbers of people sitting in KHs who have severe doubts or flat out don't believe a word of it but attend for other reasons? At least 10% surely, but probably not as high as 50%. Whatever the figure I bet there are more now than there has ever been before.
