The main purpose of the war is to provide US arms manufacturers with a source of revenue. If I was Ukrainian I wouldn’t be eager to die as canon fodder for US and UK interests at the behest of foreign leaders looking out for their own selfish gain such as Boris Johnson who famously and wickedly scuppered a peace deal in April 2022.

Ukraine v England football match
by BoogerMan in"england's winning run in their euro 2024 qualifying campaign came to a halt as they were held to a draw by ukraine in wroclaw.
ukraine were backed by 40,000 of their own fans in the tarczynski arena, giving the game the fervent feel of a home fixture as they are unable to play in their own country because of the war with russia.

Are adjustable rate mortgages the norm in the UK?
by SydBarrett inperhaps an odd subject for a presumably religious focused discussion board, but there are a fair number of brits here... i'm an american, but i sometimes listen to the podcast of the james o'brien radio show.
(a brit political radio show where people call in).
the past few months, a common topic has been people calling in discussing how hard they are getting hit financially because of a dramatic rise in interest rates on their mortgage.

House prices have increased much more than wages since the 1980s that’s why interest rates at 6% are a much bigger deal at current prices than even at the peak interest rates in the 1980s when prices were much lower. Even at that, interest rates of 15% were very short lived in the 1980s any case.

House prices have increased by 2 and 1/2 times since the early 1990s when taking inflation into account, from around £100,000 to over £250,000 in today’s money. -

Yeah but house prices were ten times lower in the 1980s.
15% of a much lower number is a lower amount than 6% of a much larger number.

I think it’s about 50/50 and is perceived as a consumer choice whether to go with a fixed or variable rate.
Variable rate has been popular since the 2008 crash because rates became so low and the variable rate has generally been a bit lower than the fixed rate available.
In the past couple of years fixed rates have become more popular again because rates have been rising, and there has been expectation they will rise further so people now wish to lock in a perceived lower fixed rate, if possible.
Fixed rates are generally not available for the whole term and need to renegotiated after 5 years or so.
This is the situation as far as I know.
James O’Brien is insufferable.

Do you play the LOTTERY?
by Fisherman injw view gambling as a sin and sadly people get addicted to gambling causing them financial and health problems.
but is playing a couple of bucks a week on some lottery tickets actually gambling?
what do you have to lose?

When we helped an MS moving, a lottery receipt came to daylight behind the fridge. Was a little embarrassing. But no consequences followed as far as I remember.
Ah the joys of JW life, never knowing when some misstep or thought crime might disclose itself unprompted to expose you to the instant scorn of the brothers.

I like the story of the great grandmother buying a winning lottery ticket to help out her son.
I think the elders’ book specifically says that small scale and occasional gambling is not a disfellowshipping offence.

Has he paid to inflate his Patreon number?
On the one hand he’s an egomaniac who would do anything to maintain the fiction of success.
On the other hand he is so tight with money it’s hard to imagine him spending anything on his business if he can avoid it.
So who knows? I think it’s possible but not likely.
The working assumption should be that there really are still shockingly high numbers of patrons who haven’t yet jumped ship, or who have joined while somehow remaining oblivious to LE’s behaviour.
His real trouble is that his videos are rubbish and he knows it and he hates doing them. Any reprieve on the patron front is more like extra time added to a chore he desperately wants to escape.

Oh for crying out loud he’s up to 475. 😂
But the facts don’t change he hates doing the videos and they’re getting worse and worse.
It’s gonna be a long bumpy ride to the bottom.

It seems he got another mini bounce from a begging banner in the last few days. But the trend is still inexorably downwards. It’s like watching the slowest band aid being ripped off ever. When the whole racket finally disappears it’ll be his local dealers and pimps who feel it the most.
