Can someon explain the 70 years prophecy to me?
by ithinkisee ini am reading gentile times reconsidered.
great book.
but when you read it you definitely have to have a clear understanding of the 70 years prophecy as interpreted by the society - otherwise the explanations sound just as garbled as the society's (except reconsidered has a lot more actual references).. can someone explain it in simple terms?

BB:
i actually didn't know that the watchtower had commented on that. thanks. this is from the same book i mentioned earlier (Is It God's Word?):
A mystery of the ages in connection with the Flood is how
Noah's venerable grandfather Methuselah survived the universal
cataclysm which destroyed all life except the Noah menage and
menagerie in the ark. Methuselah did not die until a year or more
after the Flood -- fourteen years after according to the
Septuagint. It is recorded that Methuselah was 187 years old when
his son Lamech was born (Gen. v, 25), and he lived for 787 years
afterwards, dying at the ripe age of 969 years (v, 26, 27). Lamech
was 182 years old when his son Noah was born (v, 28, 29). When the
Flood began, Noah was in his six hundredth year, or, to be exact,
he was 599 years, one month, and seventeen days old (vii, 11); and
Noah lived for 350 years after the Flood, and was 950 years old
when he died (ix, 28, 29). Methuselah was alive when the Flood
began and when it ended, if the Bible record is true: 1. From the
birth of Lamech to the beginning of the Flood was (182 plus 599)
781 years; and from the birth of Lamech to the end of the Flood was
782 years. If Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech 782 years he
survived the Flood. Or, again:
2. From the birth of Methuselah to the beginning of the Flood
was (187 plus 182 plus 599 years) 968 years; the Flood ended a year
later, when Methuselah was 969, and he died at that good old age.
Or again: 3. From the birth of Methuselah to the death of Noah was
(187 plus 182 plus 950 years) 1319 years. As Noah died 350 years
after the Flood, from the birth of Methuselah to the end of the
Flood was (1319 minus 350 years) 969 years, the age of Methuselah
at his death, after the Flood.

Is the Governing Body in Danger at Bethel as More Bethlites read the Net??
by frankiespeakin indo you think the gb should limit contact with bethelites because of possible harm that could come to them right there at headquarters.
i mean think of how many bethelites have interent access and know the gb are tyrants, but are stuck there at bethel because they have no money and no place to turn because they have been there for many years.. i think many gbs purposely keeps to themselves now a days, they probably should even think seriously of a body guard even while at bethel.. have you notice the wt doesn't give any advance notice when a gb will be speaking at conventions anymore, could it be that they are worried that some father or other family member who lost a child through thier no blood policy, finds out throught the internet that the gb are phoneies and now blames the gb for the loss of life.
think of how dangerous it would be to give advanced notice when so and so gb member would be giving a convention talk.

I bet they go kind of easy on the warnings at bethel so as not to stir up any undue curiousity.
that;s probably a good idea, but nah...they don't go easier on the warnings out there. they lay the evil internet warnings on ya and then an extra helping of "big brother is watching" to keep you in line.

I think looking at porn has been the first step many of us make, and then looking at apostate sites soon follows. Did you get progamed while surfing the net at bethel?
LOL. i never looked at 'apostate' stuff while i was at bethel, i was too busy.
i definitely started to leave the org while i was out there and i would've been more than receptive to this site and others (towards the end, i wasn't going to meetings or out in service, as odd as that may sound). i just never bothered to look for apostate stuff.

pretty much everyone i worked with had a computer in their room. at the time i was there, netzero was still free so i would say the majority of the guys i knew w/ a computer had internet access. i would assume it's lower now since they would have to pay a monthly bill.
for the record, i looked at porn constantly and the home overseer never said anything so i'm pretty sure he never checked my PC (or more likely, EVERYONE'S computer was chock full of porn).

i was at bethel until 2001 and had personal internet access the entire time. it was dial-up and the only way it could be monitored is if someone checked your computer while you were away. there's absolutely no way that bethel could monitor dial-up access because every single room has a phone line.
