Why do JWs take vacations....?
by SeymourButts inwhy do loyal jws take sight-seeing vacations?
if they will live forever on a paradise earth, why do they spend time seeing the wonders of the world and the beauty of it all while on a vacation from their secular employment?
they will have the rest of eternity to seek out the wonders of this world, will they not?

All the JWs that I knew fell into two camps, those who were trying to escape the routine and those who wanted to "keep up with the Jones's". We took vacations so that we could visit our families who lived far away.

Was man created perfect?
by moshe inthe bible explains that adam and eve were created human and because they had eaten from the tree of knowledge good and evil, they became almost like god and the angels.- gen 3:22-24. they knew the difference between good and bad, which the rest of the animals did not.
god kicked them out of the garden of eden to keep them from eating from the tree of life and becoming immortal- just like god.
if they had been able to get to the tree of life, they could have lived forever.

None of it makes sense. Another inconsistency in the collection of books called "the Bible". First, humans are condemned for trying to know the difference between good and evil. Later, in the NT Paul's busy telling people they should "grow up" and learn to distinguish good from evil.

More help needed... if you can! (for FHN)
by bebu inhey all,.
no pressure, no guilt, but for those of you who can, and those who feel like they would like to make a difference for someone special on this board (aka "family" to many of you), could you please consider helping a 'sister' in real need?
flyinghighnow needs some short-term help financially.

Desperate and unable to forget
by Shadowland inam a newbie here so please excuse any lack of decorum, just need to vent to people that understand.. a quick rundown: dad was an elder since i was about 3, and from the time i was 5 i wondered why he was so nice to everyone else and an arsehole to his family.
dad remained an elder until 'deposed' when i was 13, after which my 17 yr old sister 'lost faith' (although, knowing her, it happened a lot sooner).
sis left home, i got seriously depressed and tried to kill myself, after which nothing was ever the same with either my family or the 'truth' (the 'lie' is more like it).

Hi Shadow, welcome to the board. Vent away, it does help. Especially on a forum like this where the others know what you've been through. I hope you can find some healing.

very weird Sunday morning phone call
by Cellist inthis morning i was lying in bed, contemplating getting up, when the phone rang.
i briefly considered not answering it, but my grandfather has been ill and i thought i'd better answer.
what happened next has left me feeling like i'm in the twilight zone.

I guess for everyone to realize just how weird this call was I should tell a bit about our situation.
When we moved here we had been inactive for a year already. Although my husband was associated with the local JWs when he was growing up, we haven't been as a couple. The congregations we attended were a thousand miles and more away from here. The older sister who phoned this morning was an associate of a JW relative (deceased a few years back)
Up until this morning, I wasn't even aware that she knew of our existence. For her to phone us for a ride is almost like blindly picking a name out of the phonebook!

WTWizard, Believe me, I didn't go. I walked out of my last meeting over 15 years ago. I left half way through the meeting and I haven't stepped foot in a KH since.

This morning I was lying in bed, contemplating getting up, when the phone rang. I briefly considered not answering it, but my grandfather has been ill and I thought I'd better answer. What happened next has left me feeling like I'm in the twilight zone.
An older woman greeted me (not by name) and said, "this is ______ (first name only)". She then rambled on about needing a ride to the hall because so many weren't going and asked me if we had room in our car. I was totally confused, assumed she was one of my mother's friends needing a ride to a function that her group is involved with (they tend to phone my sister and I) and so I told her that my mother was gone for the weekend. This flustered the lady on the other end of the phone and she said, "well, I guess I'll have to look elsewhere for a ride. It's surprising more aren't going since ....... is giving his talk."
When I got off the phone I realized that it had been a JW who phoned. One that we only know by name, never met her before in our lives. We haven't been inside a Kingdom Hall for about 15 years! And we've NEVER been inside this particular hall. I'm still scratching my head over it.
The good news is that obviously a good number of the congregation are choosing a weekend with their family.
