hi eveyone, did your congregation ever have organised gatherings with other congregations nearby?
my old congregation rarley mixed.
there was so little social life that we had no choice but to visit other congs.. another question - did you get any counsel if you constantly attended a kingdom hall other than the one you were assigned to?
No big get togethers. "Large social gatherings" were frowned on.
Individuals organized smaller things that often had those from others congs but by invitation only.
Remember a fancy dress with the theme of the '70s. It was quickly followed by a local needs talk and yet it was totally innocent with mixed ages and no low lighting!!!
Even dancing at weddings with ones husband/wife was frowned on.
Now it seems that lots of the younger ones locally do thier own thing and go clubbing/pubbing and totally ignore the elders/gestapo.

Went to Camber and then Haysbridge.

hi everyone, in the congregation i grew up in, it was very cold and unloving.
circuit overseers would come and go, they would give counsel and nothing changed.
at one time even the do came at the same time as the co and gave counsel to 'widen out'.
Oh Camber
we got baptised at Camber.
This was actually a good venue IMHO and far more relaxed than driving every day to the A/H.
I think the org was nicer then or maybe it was because we were new dubs.

Hi Qwerty
other half was phoned a few weeks ago by the assembly hall overseer as they had a problem and wondered if he was willing to sort it for them. This despite knowing our situation ie no meetings for about 2 years.
We actually felt sorry for him as he is a very nice person. One of the more reasonable ones.

Hi truthseeker
we used to do maintenence every CA and sometimes in between if they had a problem.
It was good going to all the roped off bits. Especially in your old clothes.
We always had to take our own lunch though. I seem to think that you could get a meal years ago when catering was done but of course that gradually changed.
Also used to do cleaning at the assembly.
Does anyone remember having to 'sanitize' after cleaning the food areas prior to the end of day inspection by Denis or Chris and the local cleaning dignatries?
Do I miss this. HELL NO. But it is nice to talk about it with others who where there.

Hi Ignored one
There was Colin Conradie
I think the 'camp' one was Roddy and Lucy Holyoak.
What about Clive and Jan Upton?
The scottish one was Glen McFarlane. We heard he had some kind of nervous breakdown. He was a nice person. Dont remember the spoon though.
Then of course Br Carter who called all the sisters 'flower and petal' and did impromptu Q&A's from the Haysbridge platform.
The first one I remember was Maurice Reeder and then Maurice Simpson.
Wonder what they are all doing now?
