Has anyone undertaken to run a Xmas Card mailing list this year? I know we have been really excited to get cards from fellow posters on JWD in the past and time is running out for posting. Here in the UK the last dates for the USA, Canada is Dec 12th and Australia is Dec 8th so we havent got long. I dont mind collating and forwarding details if no one else is. Sorry if this has already been covered, just point me to the link Anglise

REIKI
by Dansk ina friend of mine is almost a reiki master and i decided to let her use her skill on me.
while i was lying on the couch she put some really soothing music on which, aptly, is called 'reiki music'.. so soothing was this music that her husband kindly recorded it onto cd for me and i took it home.
i played the music to claire, who is a chartered physiotherapist, and she asked me if she could take the cd into work for her relaxation class.

I found myself in a hospital talking to the mother of a newborn who was dying due to a CHD.
There was nothing I could say to give any comfort that was worthwhile.
I had been a JW for about 18 years and religious all my life but from then on as far as I was concerned there was no god.
The rest of the problems that we were having with the org just added up to confirm our decision to fade as quickly and painlessly as possible.

'feel-good news': Car park chivalry nets charity £2,000
by Simon in.
i'm sure the wts won't be using this example to show how evil everyone outside the wts is:.

Yep it's really nice to be able to give to charity and NOT feel guilty or have to justify it in some way.
It reminds me of a slogan I once read, I cant remember where from, it said
"WE BELIEVE IN LIFE BEFORE DEATH"

Circuit overseer "rips them a new one"
by Mulan inmy jw buddy just called me with some "fun" news.
they had the co last week, and of course dave and i were part of the elder's meeting agenda.
my friend has just had a conversation with one of the elders, who told her about it because it involved her.

Hi Mulan
we felt like you do about hiding the xmas tree. For the first year it was in a back room where nobody could see it from outside.
The next year other half couldnt contain himself any longer and so the tree was in the front window and the front door and a tree ouside had lights on.
A pioneer bro delivering our mags even commented on them (in a friendly not judgemental way).
We are not DA or DF and other half was an elder up until we stopped going.

Is it just in the UK?
by anglise inin our local congs we have noticed that those who have been bought as jw's seem to have the ability to ignore most of the rules.. for instance all the rhetoric about "keeping your life simple" etc.. the only ones who seem to apply this are those who come in as adults and then change their job's, career's and/or lifestyles to comply.
the "born in" dubs pursue well paid jobs, posh homes and still get made elders.
they also have the expensive and very regular holidays and weekend breaks without a word of reproof.. do they not listen to the talks or dont they believe it anyway.. anglise

The Circuit Overseer Says 'Just Do More'.........
by minimus inmy mother told me that last night's meeting was about how we all simply have to do more.
if we are asked to work on a saturday, we should know that saturday morning belongs to jehovah and that the automatic answer simply is "no, that time is set aside for jehovah.
" he said our congregation is down to 60 something publishers and we simply just can't afford to lose anymore..... he gave an example of a boy and his dad that were out hunting.

I can relate to what you said Rocket Man. Our house needs heaps doing to it because of the time we gave to the borg.

Did I get the wrong Christmas Ornaments?
by Elsewhere ini have a small tree so i got a package of small ornaments that are about 2 inches in diameter.
when i bought them i did not notice that the tops do not have hooks like i expected, instead they have very small loops.
these loops are too small to slide on to the branches of the tree, so am i supposed to use little twist-ties or something?
-
anglise
You could also thread cotton through the loop and tie at any length you want.
Or tinsel.
Or raffia.
Or duck tape.
Anglise
ps what is the differance between duck and duct tape???

Lots of good points in this post,
I would assume that in the long term it is driven by the dollar. Nothing more, nothing less. They are first and foremost a publishing corporation.
WELCOME to Pillsbury. Glad you have taken the plunge and posted.
