They just don't make films like this anymore.

Dr Copper got both his forearms bitten off by the 'Norris-Thing'. An actor who was a double amputee was hired to play a screaming, mortally-wounded Dr Copper, wearing a Dr Copper face mask. It works because director John Carpenter cut away from it quickly.

Also, a special mention must go to the special effects, created by Rob Bottin. His effects should've gotten an Oscar - as it was, he wasn't even nominated. <--- ridiculous!

And I love this, from Rocky (1976) …

I love the fight choreography - it's not perfect but it's believable and shows a smart, mobile champion boxer (Creed) vs a tough slugger (Balboa).

I also like the fact that Rocky doesn't actually win, it's a split decision that the judges give to the champ, Apollo Creed. <--- that's kinda realistic.

I love the way at 3 mins 43 secs Nancy asks 'who are you?' and this weird, burnt guy just lifts up his dirty sweater and slices open his own stomach. <--- better run, Nancy, imagine what he'd do to you if he catches you.

Also, I love the way her breathing is out of control at 4 mins 20 secs.

I love the way the fairground music changes to an ominous rumble at 27 secs. The whole thing is very 'Lynchian', as it were. Yes, it's the opening to The Elephant Man (1980), directed by David Lynch.

But socialism (socialist policies) can only continue to exist in stable, capitalist countries (see Sweden, Norway, Denmark). So socialism/socialist ideas and policies depend on capitalism for their survival.

The real Dracula?

i'm a bit of a horror fan - i love horror movies and the novel dracula by bram stoker is a pretty good read - especially the first four chapters, with jonathan harker being in dracula's castle.. i've heard before that stoker based count dracula on a 15th century voivod (prince) of wallachia who went down in history as vlad the impaler - apparently, he was extremely barbaric and cruel, as his name suggests.. vlad's father was also called vlad.

daddy vlad was apparently part of an order of crusader knights, the order of the dragon.

this order was formed to protect christian europe against muslim ottomans/turks.

Hi Simon - is the Dracula adaptation you saw the one that is written by Mark Gatiss and stars Claes Bang?

Writer Mark Gatiss himself is a big horror fan, and I like some of his Sherlock episodes, too.

I don't have Netflix or even a TV licence but I've seen this DVD available. At the moment, it's too expensive for me (£13) but I might buy it if it goes down in price.

Hi Leonie, welcome to the forum.

We're not actually Jehovah's Witnesses here.

This site is a place for ex-Witnesses, people who were born into the cult and thus were forced to live by the cult's rules, and there are also a few interested others.

Evolution is generally accepted here.

Is your chemistry teacher a believing JW? Is he trying to argue against evolution and for a literal reading of the Bible book of Genesis?

(BTW, teachers specialising in chemistry tend not to be experts in evolution/biology.)
