Joel -- Do "most people" foster war or sell magazines to try to save the world? Your subject title is an over-generalization.
Sometimes war is necessary -- when people are coming to try to blast you! Allowing them to do so would erase the "fun" in life, right?
If you're trying to say people should live and let live, that seems fair enough. I believe the majority of folks try to do that.

I agree to a certain extent Joel. I think most people are more egocentric than they'd like to admit. (I'm lumping myself in there, before you take offense to my comments.) We'd like to think that little ol' me can actually make a difference by showing others we have the "right" way and nobody else's is as good. After being raised as a JW, it's a habit that I have to work hard at breaking. I'm getting better though.

actually i have two points, as usually i start with a bold statement to create discussion and then elaborate.
1. i feel that too much time is devoted to big organizations trying to help millions of people. in some cases such as disaster relief that is necessary, however, to really affect peoples lives permanently for the long run takes one on one effort. not spending your life fighting for a "cause". the suicide Iraqis blowing themselves up for their holy land just one example, there are thousands more.
2. i think you end up helping people the most sometimes when you aren't really trying to help people but you are just chugging along trying to make the best out of your own life.
this still isn't completely clear, but i think i know what i mean.

I know most people help me by their example, so yeah, I think you're right.
