I saw it on last night's news. One of our closed High Schools, now a county admin building, is setting up 1000 cots for evacuees from Katrina-bitch.
They were looking to shelter 1000 more. The county suggest the new jail facility that has not been occupied because of funding. Unfortunately they didn't think a "jail" even unused, was suitable. Too bad, because it has everything in place including kitchen and bathing facilities for more people than the Red Cross are looking to shelter.
I wish I could help out, but they are only taking $$$ donations and only those with Red Cross training are allowed to volunteer their time/efforts.
