    Tell me about the Superdome.

They are letting thousands of people into the Superdome. I heard on the radio, that they were checking all persons and carry-ins, for weapons etc. So where are these people going to sleep. Tell me what the superdone looks like. Are there seats or long benches? Do they have cots for people? Is the dome covered? Is it about sea level? Is the dome hurricaine proof? duh How long will these people stay? If I don't have anywhere to go, because my house is still under 10 feet of water, I might stay quite a while. When is the first game being played? Is it turf or grass?

    What about the coffins? OMG

There are people staying on the 5th floor of a hotel in downtown. Many on vacation. What are they thinking? So you survive the hurricaine. But when you look out the window on the 5th floor, you can't see the 3rd floor. You can't flush the toilet. No water. Rental car agency is under 30 feet of water. Do you hail a passing boat? Why would you stay?

I'll have more questions. I have been out of town all day. These are real questions. I need answers. HL

I know that if they lose power, and they will, there will be no ventilation or lights in the dome. I went through Betsy in 1965. It wasn't as bad as Katrina. Our streets were flooded for a week. They had to use boats to go to the store and get ice. One by one our neighbors grilled the contents of their freezers and fed the neighborhood.

You fill your bathtubs to flush the toilet with and you don't flush it each time or you run out. Look at the thread I started about the potential damage for New Orleans. You can get some answers there. I am just stunned by this storm and what it will do to New Orleans and my childhood hometown, Morgan City. I've been wanting to go home for a visit as it's been years now. I can't believe what is about to happen. Evidently New Orleans could have been better prepared for this storm, but no one did the necessary things to keep her safe. Let's hope that storm surge doesn't top the levees, though I'm hearing it's very high possibility that it will.

On ABC they just said that they don't know if the Super Dome can withstand a category 5 hurricane. Check my thread about how ill prepared NOLA is for this storm. They were predicting the death toll could top 40,000 in the article I posted. The article was written at least a year ago. I don't think it will be that high, but then I'm in denial.

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CNN) -- Hurricane Katrina flogged Louisiana's southeastern shore Monday morning with sustained winds in excess of 135 mph as it moved inland, the National Hurricane Center said.

New Orleans, braced for a catastrophic direct hit from the powerful Category 4 storm, hunkered nearly 10,000 people in its mammoth Superdome, but Ed Reams of CNN affiliate WDSU reported that the structure has begun leaking as the winds damaged the roof letting daylight and rainwater in the darkened arena.

"I can see daylight straight up from inside the Superdome," Reams reported.

National Guard troops moved people to the other side of the dome. Others were moving beneath the concrete-reinforced terrace level.

"This is only going to get bigger," he said. "We have another two hours before the worst of the storm gets to us." ( Watch the video of the worst case, 'Lake New Orleans' )

City officials estimated that 1 million people had evacuated the area as the storm approached.

About 70 percent of New Orleans is below sea level and is protected from the Mississippi River by a series of levees.
