Were the Bible Students (Watchtower) the only 'Christian' religion NOT on the watch for Christ's arrival in 1914, or were there others?

The magazine was then called "The Watchtower & Herald of Christ's Presence" because the teaching of Russell and Rutherford at the time (and right up to 1943) was that Christ had already returned - in 1874. So when he arrived and was knocking (Luke 12:36) allegedly in 1914, they were not on the watch as they thought he had arrived decades earlier.

Was the Watchtower the only Christian religion asleep and not watching for Christ's return in 1914, or were there others? (this question is one that arises in Captives of a Concept).

Logically, if you think Christ is ALREADY PRESENT you cannot be expected to watch for the arrival!

JW's are among the very very few Christians who do not look for Christ's return.

Further, JW's may be the only Christians to forbid the taking of the bread and wine for 99% of their membership even though they admit it is the only commanded celebration for them.

JW's have co-opted the meaning of Christianity which is about Jesus and turned it into a religion about Jehovah. JW's do not worship as other Christians do as a result.

Other Christian denominations view Jesus as the mediator between humans and God. JW's view the Governing Body in Brooklyn as their mediator between only a few humans (anointed) and Jesus.

Is it any wonder they are called a cult?

    Terry, thanks

Dec 1 1984 Watchtower, page 14 says "So when Christ's visible presence began in 1914, happy were [JWs] to have been found watching."

But that cannot have been true, as they insisted for for 29 years after 1914 that his presence had started in 1874. Luke 12:36 says "At [Jesus'] arriving and knocking they may at once open to him." But if he arrived and knocked in 1914, why did JWs not acnowledge his arrival for many many years years?

And do they claim once again to be 'on the watch' now? And if so, for what? a third coming? Please forgive my confusion as a non-JW.

They are obviously charlatans and egotists they made a mistake and instead of admitting it they sought to justify it by appealing to the invisible: oh yes it didn't happen visibly but it happened invisibly so we are right after all. Who on earth can check and verify all that? Invisible coming, invisible enthronement and invisisble inspections? What a nonsense.

Terry that was a good post their brand of christianity is a very weird one, judaism more than christianity.
