The phrase, Circular Reasoning, seems to be a popular one on this forum. One poster even said, "The Watchtower Society uses circular reasoning in almost every article they write..."

An online definition of this phrase: "...reasoning in which the proposition to be proved is contained in one of the premises".

If circular reasoning is so rampant in the Society's publications, can someone quote an example?

Every time they point to 1914 as that oh-so-pivotal year as prophesied in the scriptures - and then point out that it must be the prophesied beginning of the end because it was so pivotal in human history.

The organization is god's visible organization on earth and they know this is true because they were chosen in 1919. They know they were chosen in 1919 because they are now gods vivible organization on earth.

They teach that Jerusalem was destroyed in 607 BCE because if you add 2520 to -607 you get the year 1914 which is when Jesus returned invisibly to earth. They know that Jerusalem was destroyed in 607 BCE because Jesus returned invisibly to earth in 1914 and if you go back 2520 years you get the date 607 BCE.

    Thanks to Google, here's one:

Ex-JW, David Reed explains what is happening:
They accept whatever the Society tells them because the Society is God's channel of communication, which, in turn, they believe because it is the only religious organization on earth teaching the truth - a conclusion they defend because they accept everything the Society tells them. Although this is circular reasoning, it is the way that Jehovah's Witnesses think (Reed, p. 59).

it's not just the bleeding organization. it's any religion that consider themselves the one true religion. how do they know? because god told them so. how do they know it was god? because the bible told them so. how do they know the bible is right? because god said it was right.

so there you go. don't make me go and round up quotes. it would be a waste of bandwidth. both circular and non sequitur. a dandy for sure!
