Looked forward to it - didn't know "new light" theory

In 1983 the witnesses came to my door and assured me, with publications, that "this generation who was there at 1914 "would not pass away" - indeed they pushed it, trying to scare me into witnoidism if nothing else.

At the time I do remember thinking, "oh well, it's the end of them when they get that egg on their face"

But I didn't know about the "new light" lying recovery technique - maybe I wasn't "as wise a serpent", or rather "thinking like a snake".

I was looking forward to it, and remembered thinking, "this'll be good"

What a fizzer - that "new light" sure makes for a dull life.

Its staggering how the light could have been so dark in the first place, considering that they are actually gods prophet here on earth. Even more staggering is so often the "light that gets brighter" is just as dark as it was in the first place.

before the 'new light' they said: I am sure the end will come very soon. Then a week later: Many dubs I know just said: Sht, now I am not going to see the end anymore.

Just flip a coin and they have another opinion.

I wonder how many would kill them selves as the next WT would say to do it? Scary

You know, I remember the whole Jim Jones/Jonestown thing when I was young. And I remember thinking "Now, THERE'S a group that won't pop up again to annoy us." The thing that bugs the bejesus outta me about the WTBS is the number of times they have been able to get away with the same kind of crappy predictions and ridiculous guidelines for Christian living for the past 130 years. There is NO COLLECTIVE MEMORY among the membership. You'd think that some of these folks would have said "Doggoneit! They told my grandpa that Armageddon would be over by 1914! WTF are they trying to pull on me?!" or "Hey! These clowns told Grandpa that aluminum cookware and vaccinations were deadly 75 years ago. Now they're telling my wife it's 'porneia' if she gives me a blowjob? WTF are they trying to pull on me?"

The phrase "new light" just makes my skin crawl. I remember the first time my mom used it, to explain that the "King of the North" has now changed to the "Muslim Countries". Couldn't believe what I was hearing.

Last conversation I had with my dad, as I was trying to get him to explain all the flip flops, he was getting ready to use that idiotic term. I told him "dont even say it!" He said "How do you know what I'm going to say" I said "I know you're gettng ready to say NEW LIGHT"

ugh! Hate it. I know what you mean thought, it kinda does get in the way of all the satisfaction we could have as we sit back and watch all their false prophecies crumble before their very eyes.

    Oh well, dern, new light...

In the JWs, what was true and still remains true? Not much, they were obviously making their followers to believe in lies and the found this creepy new light ideology to cover themselves.

The dubs readily believe that a new doctrine replacing an older one is an addition to it to make it more complete.

No it's a total replacement nothing remains of the old eg old light: organ transplants are cannibalism, new light: organ transplants are not cannibalism.

Something very interesting I recall from being a JW is the way they eagerly look forward to and try to anticipate New Light (TM). It is almost like a game to them... sort of like people talking excitedly about what they think will happen next on their favorite soap opera.

Is that in print yet in a WTS publication? Or is the WTS only sending out feelers through the elders, COs, and DOs, or Bethelites to see how much the rank and file will swallow?

    Elsewhere,

"...they eagerly look forward to and try to anticipate New Light (TM)."

Why? Because they expect two things,

    1. an announcement of when Armaggeddon will begin. (Every "special" talk or meeting is attended for this purpose)

    2. something new has to make better sense than the crap they believe right now!

"Is that in print yet in a WTS publication? Or is the WTS only sending out feelers through the elders, COs, and DOs, or Bethelites to see how much the rank and file will swallow?" Hi Blondie, my dad is an elder, so I dont know if my mom got this from him, and maybe he got inside info, or if she heard it in a talk or something. I wish I knew, but she didnt say anything about reading it in a WT or anything. Thanks for the links, that was intersting information. I like how the brother says "I was told that it has more than Christendom". When he referred to how large islam is. Guess thats how they come up with all their theories, because they "were told". That must make it a hard solid fact then.
