    Dr. Steven Morales, a Jehovah's Witness who practices bloodless medicine and surgery, is available for interviews. Dr. Morales is medical advisor for the bloodless medicine and surgery program at Metropolitan Methodist Hospital. With advance notice, we can identify a patient who has chosen bloodless surgery and is willing to be interviewed. Dr. Morales also can do interviews in Spanish.

    Hey there!
    Thanks for the article....I wonder if the JW's who jump on this article as total support really understand it. Bloodless oftentimes entails using one's own blood, rather than a donors.(It meant that in hospitals I worked at previously)And last I heard autologous transfusions were still verboten.
    And also the 'person who has CHOSEN'..bloodless surgery.
    This sounds like elective procedures. In such cases there is often time to prepare for 'bloodless' alternatives,as opposed to immediate emergencies....in which time is critical and blood may be the only option.(I know, not stating anything new here re:blood) Thanks again...going to your site now, luv,T

    hmmm I can't get that url to work...and i was really curious as to how Dr Morales would define 'bloodless'. I probably shouldn't be,but I'm always curious about JW docs. How do they reconcile a no blood stance with the Hippocratic oath of "First do no harm.......(when in some instances NOT giving blood is dangerous to the pt)

    That always seemed to me as so unethical. So would a JW doc use blood on a non-jw patient? Would he be able to suspend his personal ethics in the services of another without residual guilt? How could he practice with such situational ethics? I've never worked with or come in contact w/ a jw doc(I dont think there's too many of em)
    Sorry,I ramble this morning. Just some questions that I have. T

    Kent,

    Maybe we should telephone the good doctor up and ask him about monochorionic pregnancies!!!!!!!!!

    And then ask him if the twin (sometimes triplets or highter) fetuses actually "NATURALLY EXCHANGE" their blood just like in a transfusion!!!!

    Oh by the way. I love your posts but for the less smart people could you properly "link" your urls. All you have to do is put a "(" immediately infront of the url and then when your post is read we will be able to click on it.

    example
    http://media.sahealth.com/viewprognosis.asp?MediaID=67 (without the "("

    ( http://media.sahealth.com/viewprognosis.asp?MediaID=67 (with the "("

    I also believe any other letter or character placed immediately before the http://... will work.

    Hi hawkaw;

    I'm sorry I've been such an asshole :)

    I have added a few spaces before the URL's - so now they seem to work. I wondered why the link to the Observer never seemed to work :)

    Thanks, and the same to JanH.
