    Honorable Vladimir Vasilyevich!

A letter has been received addressed to Moscow City Duma

    - studying in the second year

    (section erased, possibly containing name

of a second year college female student who has

either become one of Jehovah’s Witnesses

    or who has begun studying)

as have many young people, has fallen under the influence of the sect of

Jehovah’s Witnesses, which has launched an active campaign in the territory of (erased). For

parents and relatives of children who have been induced into this sect, the harm from its

activities is obvious—extortion of money on the pretext of “voluntary contributions,”

conflicts with relatives, the breakup of ties with relatives and friends. Unfortunately, those

active in the sect are well protected legally and it is very difficult to find means of opposition,

especially in view of the fact that all of the young people induced into the sect are of full legal

age and have joined of their own accord, and indeed on the surface it all looks very

    respectable.

However, having fallen under this alien and hostile influence, young people can be

used to achieve unlawful aims and, taking into account the development of events along these

lines, it seems to me that the activities of such organizations as Jehovah’s Witnesses should be

    strictly monitored and controlled.

I earnestly request you, Honorable Vladimir Vasilyevich, to look into possibilities of

counteracting the influence of the organization of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

The contacts of the applicant can be provided if necessary.

    APPLICATION

    Honorable Nikolay Nikolayevich!

We ask you to conduct an investigation of the “Jehovah’s Witnesses” sect on the

legitimacy of their activity in the city of Ukhta. The grounds for this application are letters

that Jehovah’s Witnesses have been distributing to people’s mailboxes. In the letters, besides

intimidation, there is evidence of interference in the private lives of citizens. On the basis of

Article 29 of the Russian Federation Constitution, and Article 14 of the Federal Law On

Freedom of Conscience and Religious Associations, we ask you to consider this application

and to take appropriate measures in order to protect our citizens from infringement on their

personal freedom by the representatives of this sect.

Despite the fact that the activity of the sect has been stopped in the territory of the city

of Moscow in accordance with the Golovinsky District Court of the Northern Circuit decision

dated 26 March, 2004, which serves as the basis for corresponding decisions in the city of

Ukhta, Jehovah’s Witnesses continue to perform their illegal activity. This sect is banned in

29 countries of the world, and in France it is considered to be a commercial organization. By

the decision of Dzerzhinsky Federal Court of the Central District of St. Petersburg, dated 28

December, 1999, case No. 2-237, the organization of Jehovah’s Witnesses is recognized as a

    sect.

Poor witnesses. God I wish we could get them to wake up. Their persecution complex only makes things worse.
