    On the Mirthra thread zen made this comment and reminded me of something.

    Personally, I beileve the god man myths began in relationship to astrological and agricultural cycles... the 12 apostles of the Zodiac, the four corners of the heavens, Leo the lion, Taurus the bull, Aquarius the man bearing water and Scorpio, which may have been an eagle oringally are found in both Ezekiel and Revelations.

    I've seen comments on websites before about the importance of the zodiac in the bible and religion in general.

    For example:

    (Mark 14:13) 13 With that he sent forth two of his disciples and said to them: "Go into the city, and a man carrying an earthenware vessel of water will encounter YOU. Follow him,

    I've seen (cant remember exactly where) where this was identified as Jesus refering to the constellation of aquarius.

    The Twins Adam and Eve were born at the dawn of Gemini

    Also that the coventent with abram began at the dawn of the age of aries the ram.

    (Genesis 22:13) 13 At that Abraham raised his eyes and looked and there, deep in the foreground, there was a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up for a burnt offering in place of his son.

    The Christ was born a the begining of the age of pisces

    Aquarius is about to dawn supposedly?

    Yall ever hear of this stuff?

    Yes a book called Bible Myths and Deceptions expounded at great length on the hidden astrological meanings in the text. To which I now say, "who knows?" The author ignores the work of every other field of textual research assuming the present text is the intended one. His antagonist approach also colors his arguments. It does seem quite reasonable that at least some story lines were drawn using some mystical template. And gemetria (a form of numerology) was a real aspect of Mystical Judaism and Christainity. The stories like the feeding of 5000 and 4000 were simply disguised instructions for geometric equations that identify jesus as 888 the sun god. But trying to reconstruct this hidden meaning in every story especially those that have been extensively reworked is futile. Mark often says that his audience "does not get the meaning " of certain stories like the loaves and walking on water etc. leading me to believ at least some mystical formula was involved.

    I think those two examples involve more a reading of astrology into a given text than anything else. A better case may be Revelation 12:1, but even this is questionable.

    Yeah, Revelation 12:1 sounds to be a blending of distinct OT references.

    A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.

    Genesis 37:9:

    Then he [Joseph] had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. "Listen," he said, "I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me."

    Song of Solomon 6:10:

    Who is this that appears like the dawn,
    fair as the moon, bright as the sun,
    majestic as the stars in procession?

    Isaiah 54:1

    "Sing, O barren woman,
    you who never bore a child;
    burst into song, shout for joy,
    you who were never in labor;
    because more are the children of the desolate woman
    than of her who has a husband,"
    says the LORD .

    peacefulpete,

    Could you comment it further?

    Although convincing examples of references to the zodiac in the Bible are scarce, one must keep in mind that it was hardly viewed as "pagan" in Judaism and Christianity before the modern era. The zodiac is found in ancient synagogues (e.g. Tiberias) and middle-age churches (e.g. Vézelay) alike. It is extensively used in the Jewish prophecies of Sibylline oracles (5).

    I have no idea how to post images from the scanner. But David Fideler's book jesus Christ Sun of God is a sober and scholarly attempt to decode a few of these stories as gematria. He first spends a great deal of time demonstrating the practice inn Greek cult and well as the early Christian. He focuses on the 153 fishes and the 5000 fed stories. The Pythagorean legend that the miracle man mathematicion Pythagorus appears to fisher men and instructs them to lowert their nets and he predicts the number of fish. There is reason to believe that the number was 153. Years later the ratio given by Archimedes for the vsica piscis (fish image used by Christians) is 153/265. Gematria is repeating patterns and geometry that were "discovered" within music, myth and nature. What was only interesting lessons in math was interpreted as secrets of the heavens.

    I think everyone looking for connections between a lot of things should simply read Focault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco.
