This is my first time posting although I have been lurking here for quite awhile. I hope someone here can help me out. My husband was raised a JW but never baptized. He fell away in his teens and began studying again about a year ago. I began studying too and also doing my own research which led me here. I am very sure now that this is not an organization I want to be a part of but convincing my husband is another thing. I bought Crisis of Conscience and In Search of Christian Freedom. To my suprise my husband has begun reading them and they have brought many questions to his mind. He is starting to have many doubts but is very scared of making the wrong decision. I had read somewhere that there are diffrences in the Watchtower CD than in the actual books. This really raised some questions with him. If anyone can tell me specifically what some of these changes are, I would love to be able to show him as we have the CD because our 12year old daughter is a baptized publisher, but thats a whole other story.

    Thanks for any help.

There was a quote that was different in the loose WTs in 1989 regarding timing of the end (overconfidence that the end would come in the 20th century...this change was announced at the meeting) and some Studies in the Scriptures were adjusted (late 19th century and early 20th when the end did not come in 1914). As to any major changes between the CDs and the paper magazines, very, very, very few have been found, very few; I am confident that what appears in paper appears substantially in the CDs. What the WT has been doing is dropping books altogether from the CDs. The Babylon the Great book (1964) is on some of the earlier CDs as is the Your Will be Done Book (1958) but is not on the 2003 version. Some never would put on such as the Life Everlasting in the Freedom of the Sons of God (1966) where the date 1975 was first launched.

The WTS tends to stop mentioning information in new publications rather than changing it, e.g., the teaching that a creative day is 7,000 years long.

A Blondie said, here is the change in the Jan. 1 1989 Watchtower. The bound volume and CD differ from the original magazine.

Here are the details regarding the 1989 WT quote Blondie mentioned:

WT 1/1/89 p. 12, conclusion of para. 8 originally said:

The apostle Paul was spearheading the Christian missionary activity. He was also laying a foundation for a work that would be completed in our 20th centry.

In the bound volume and WT library CD it says:

The apostle Paul was spearheading the Christian missionary activity. He was also laying a foundation for a work that would be completed in our day.

This is not exactly what you asked for, but it makes your point: From the Watchtower of January 1,1989, pg. 12: "...for a work that would be completed in our 20th century". Changed to "...for a work that would be completed in our day" in bound volume. (Why the change?) Good luck in your quest.

Thanks everyone for your help. I am really trying to help him see the way they have changed views on so many things. I am hoping he will continue with his own research.
