Denied what? Your mail!
The Watchtower of June 15, 1974 states: “It is to the spirit-anointed Christians who will rule in that kingdom that most of the Christian Greek Scriptures is directed, including the promises of everlasting life.”
So a large part of the Bible is not written to you. It seems that you’re free to follow the Old Testament with the Mosaic Law (surprise, surprise!) but the Gospel is not in your mail-box!
Interestingly, in the study article in the May 1, 2000 issue, the point is made: “The principal instrument of communication between God and humans is the Bible.” (page 14)
This may seem to be a contradiction but there is clarification on the facing page. Under an illustration of an opened Bible surrounded by WTBTS publications is the caption: “Jehovah speaks to us through the Bible and by means of 'the faithful and discreet slave'”. So there you have it; the F&DS is the postman and he will determine what mail you will read!
But it seems they can’t make up their collective mind because in an introductory article in the October 15, 2000 issue entitled “How You Can Draw Close to God” this statement is made: ”Like a letter, it can be consulted at any time……….So think of the Bible as a large collection of letters from your beloved heavenly Father, and through these letters allow him to speak to you daily.” (page 5)
Is it possible that this was put here for ‘public consumption’? (We know that the first article is always for the public, don’t we?) Or is this an example of the light getting dimmer and dimmer?
Whatever the reason, the R&F are denied the very thing the New Testament conveys:
“I have written this to you………that you may know you have eternal life.” (1 John 5:13)
Cheers,
Ozzie
