This bible verse was quoted in an earlier thread: Take good care not to practice YOUR righteousness in front of men in order to be observed by them; otherwise YOU will have no reward with YOUR Father who is in the heavens. Hence when you go making gifts of mercy, do not blow a trumpet ahead of you, just as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be glorified by men. Truly I say to YOU, They are having their reward in full. But you, when making gifts of mercy, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, that your gifts of mercy may be in secret; then your Father who is looking on in secret will repay you. ? Matthew 6:1 ? 4 I was looking for this! Right after Hurricane Frances hit here in West Palm Beach, there was a pickup truck being driven around our neighborhood with a new magnetic sign on it that said in big bold letters "Jehovahs Witnesses Hurricane Relief" !!! I was FURIOUS!! I went to my husband who is an inactive JW...and asked if he knew anyone around here with a truck like that and it was an elders son! I told him what the sign said and as I was hauling my 100th tree branch to the curb in the heat and the rain...told him how DISGUSTED I was with his freakin religion having to ADVERTISE everytime they do ANYTHING to help ANYBODY! I said "THE REST OF US DONT GO AROUND HAVING TO TELL EVERYBODY OUR RELIGION BEFORE WE HELP THEM!!" He had nothing to say...its a damn good thing he didnt too. And I bet a dime to a DOLLAR they were only helping OTHER JEHOVAHS WITNESSES!! Frustrated in Florida

Yeah, pretty sick. My parents keep raving about the trucks being sent down from Bethel with hurricane relief. I want to point out that they won't use the KHs for shelters for those who lost their homes, and that the "relief" is only for members in good standing. I've heard it all before. Did you know they count any unbelieving family members who might incidentally benefit from helping the faithful as proof that they show no partiality and help out the community? I fell for that one for a long time.

I mean, on the one hand, it's good that they are helping, but OTOH, why do they have to parade it, get write-ups in the paper, and mention it out in service? trumpets.

They make such a public show about doing those little things to help people in times of crisis (pretty much only their own) that anybody should automatically be doing anyway to advertise their pseudo-piety, but of course they will not even say ?hello? to one of their own who happens to get disfellowshipped for clinking glasses or saying ?happy birthday? or daring to question one of their many ?rules.?

What they really need is a basic course in ?Love 101.? True love beats ?true knowledge? because that is what really counts.

It would be sooooooo great if you got a pic of that truck with the sign and sent a pic of it (along with the name of the Brother? driving it and the congregation) to the WTS. Make sure you tack on that scripture too and how disgraceful you (you are "Jane Doe" and have a PO Box address, right?? LOL) find it to see this kind of pharisee like behaviour from people who claim to be Christians.

I'd bet real money that it would become the subject of a Local Needs Talk? at the next Circuit Overseer's visit.
