Keeping all of your bases covered

  I had a discussion recently with someone who is leaving the JWs.

  I told them this story about Huck Finn. Huck's slave, Jim, uses a hairball to tell the future. He drops it on the floor says some words over it and then tells Huck his future. He basically tells Huck sometimes you gonna be sick and sometimes you gonna be well. He says that he will have good times in life and sometimes bad times, etc. etc.

  Some kind of future telling, I guess Jim was covering all of his bases.

  It seems to me that the Watchtower uses the same hairball to tell the future as Jim the slave. If you watch the evening news and you see war break out-then the end of the world is near. If you watch the news and the politicians are saying the war is over and peace has come, then the end of the world is near....I guess they have all of their bases covered.

  Yeah thats a good way of looking at it, same as "doomed if ya do and doomed if ya dont" which was my experience of life with the JWs.

  Whats the problem with hairballs anyway? I reckon they are grossly underrated.

If you can't deny your defeats, hide them. Shun anyone who talks about the defeats. Repeat the concept of the undeliverable goal often.   I can remember reading this, and the WTS's interpretation of how maybe doing all that they ask may not be enough to be "concealed in the day of Jehovah's anger"... and thinking "Probably?!?!?! probably??!?!... wtf is PROBABLY???" It was as though Jehovah, if he was in a pissy mood on The Day of His Anger? (and my guess is that he probably would be), would look at your decades' worth of Field Service Reports and say "NOOOO Scully, you stayed home and watched cartoons that one Saturday morning when you were 12 years old... that's just not whole-hearted enough for me... " *zzzzapppp*
