Why is it that a watchtower article 40 years ago on raising kids has more relevance than a 3 day old copy of today's parent or the latest paperback in the bookstore? But since the Awake doesnt have dieting information the newstands are fair game! Over and over they say to stay away from so called self help sources that have a lot of good advice to feed them all this @#%@ from the magazines.

Were you ever obedient to the dubs when it came to where you went for advice? I know the line had to be when I was looking for information on being gay...I certainly didnt find any so called "comfort" in the "spritual food" lovingly provided to me. Although from the number of copies and photocopies shoved my way my mother thought they could solve any problem.

Even now my mother is faithfully pouring over a magazines from years ago to get advice on something or other.

my mother is a jw, and she actually teaches self help to women in a college, she also teaches womens health. i wonder if in some places that would be 'frowned upon'.

Wow all I can say is your mom sure is progressive in her thinking then. I know we've had a lot of talks on not turning to worldly self help sources in this area. Unless there has been new light in the last eight months.

i don't think there has been any 'new light' in the last 8 months, even if there has my mom's been teaching way longer than that. i think it could be another thing to do with double standards but more a case of it not being anyone elses business, and if nobody knows to ask, they won't be able to make drama about nothing, and in that congregation they have been there so long that i don't think anyone would question it anyway.

bttt because i think this topic has been missed!
