JWs and The Cultures They Encounter..

  I was talking w/Little Toe while we toured a kilt factory in Edinburgh...I had envisioned some guy in a kilt trying tot ell me about the good news of the kingdom...*LOL* The I thought to myself...no...I always remember seeing the ethnic/cultural dress in the JW pics, like for instance when all the dubbies are walking out of the destroyed erf into a paradise...Well, it struck me that one thing JWland does is "nueter" the cultures it encounters and the people end up looking like middle class white folks from somewhere in suburbia...it is almost as if they throw away a part of thier cultural heritage to be JWs. ..any thoughts?

  I imagine you're right, Valis. How long would it be before an Austrian, in Lederhosen and one of those hats with the shaving brush on the side, presuming to attend KH meetings, would be counselled about "appropriate attire"?

  I've often wondered about those "national dress" depictions in the WT literature - my gut reaction is that there's an air of condescention in them; has anyone else ever felt that?

  Just had an amusing thought for a future apostofest: perhaps everyone attending could hire a different "national dress" costume from a costume shop, as depicted in some of those "Paradise Earf" pics in the publications, then everyone could rock up to a meeting at the nearest KH - imagine the looks on the Dubbies' faces!

  There's a page in the Creation book that has illustrations of faces of several different nationalities, but the biggest by far is the one of the very surburban looking white American male. I wish I could remember what the caption or the context was.

  I have notice latino adam and eve. Actually many of their non evil simitic characters seems to be latino right now. Maybe the artist does not know how to draw middle eastern and knows caucasian is not correct. Or manybe because the largest growth is in brazil they have decided to cater to latinos.

  I also notice that the caucasian cover girls are getting replaced by suburban looking asian women. Infact most generic filler day in the life photos of young JWs(street clothes) tend to be asian people or black. Most of the caucisians seem older. I have seen countless shots of old caucasian men giving talks in the mags but if you are under 25 they mostlikely have asians or blacks. Idont mind it I just wana know why.
