Witnesses do gamble

We all know that witnesses say that they don't gamble, but do they? I don't mean gambling with lotteries, I mean gambling with life.

Many witnesses attend meetings and follow the JW way of life, not because they like it, but because they are afraid of dying at Armageddon, so they gamble with their current life, or take a chance, and follow the group, just incase they would win eternal life with the witnesses. Some give away nice life oportunities, marriage, good jobs etc, and gamble all that away, for possibly a better prize.

Good point. The WTS sells God Insurance, and the dumb JW's pay the premiums and the WTS will let God pay the claims! The perfect scam! Maverick

Particularly those "brought up" in the truth don't even have the choice to gamble, all the options of education : career : pension are taken away from them.

jw's are so stupid... they make such silly points of such silly things, they say you cannot gamble when the principle of why you shouldn't gamble is because it can mess your life up if you get hooked, but spending a dollar or a pound on a lottery ticket is neither here nor there in that equation. it's the same with blood, they are happy to die for lack of blood transfusion, because it should be thrown on the ground, but they will happily suck their bleeding finger if they cut it, and injest the same blood. stupidness.

I had an elder...who I really do like...say well you can gamble but only once. Otherwise it's a habit. It made me laugh. He is such a down to earth pleasant man. Still enjoy him to this day when I see him in public.

JH you hit the nail on the head. I know so many witnesses who will admit that even if the truth isn't 'real' (if they lost the bet), they lives are worth it to be able to live in a 'clean organization.' Death to a witness is just that, cashing in their chips.

They think they are playing on house money, how sad.

Actually, 3 out of the 4 active JWs in my family literally gamble. As in, they go to casinos to play blackjack, craps, etc. Of course, as the only never-baptised person in my family (and one who enjoys the casinos, myself), they've all individually gone to one or more casinos with me, but never with one another. They also all seem to think that they're the only ones in who do this and I'm not allowed to tell my father, for example, that my brother won $1000 at craps last month. It's so bizarre that they're all living the same double life and feeling so guilty about it. I'm SO GLAD my sin can just be out in the open; I definitely don't have enough of a duplicitous nature do to what they do.

ETA: Of course, this works out just fine for me since I can always say, "I'll bet you're going to pay for my drinks so that I don't accidentally slip and mention this excursion next time I talk to Mom."

isn't the whole thing against gambling boil down to making a profit off of other peoples' losses? Isn't that what the WTS is doing, profiting off of all the dubbies lost lives.

    JH,

That is so true. They do gamble with their current life just for the *chance* of seeing a world on the other side of armageddon.

Thanks for your post, I hadn't thought about that before.

BTW very nice avatar, it is very flattering. I don't know how long you had it, but you look great.
