Last week - I looked at my watch - and noticed that it was blank. I have one of those new-fangled digital LCD watches. I have had it... well... for quite a while... probably going on 20 years now.

I had this 'problem' once before... about 10 years ago. I remember trying to locate a replacement watch. I wanted one that had features like what I had. Not too complex... but with about 5 programmable alarms - 30 number phone directory - stop watch - countdown timer... and dual time zone time display.

This little watch has come in real handy through the years.

I remember, last time it died, not being able to locate another replacement - with these features - that looked decent. I bought a new battery... that was the first thing I did. But after replacing it, the watch was still blank.

So, I kept looking for a new watch. I finally located one... but procrastinated getting it. I decided to try to activate my old watch... one more time. I opened the back... looked reeeeal close, and noticed an odd place recessed in the watch - in the corner. I took a tiny screwdriver, put in in the hole, and shorted another screwdriver to ground... viola! I had the display! It was sorta like a reset switch!

Well... today, I got a battery at Radio Shack - about $3.50. I brought it home, dropped it in, and then tried to remember how to re-activate the watch. Hey! After 10 years... I couldn't remember!

I finally tried the ol' 'short the spot to ground'... and Viola! It's back! I have set it ... and set one alarm on it... now I need to reprogram the phone numbers... most were probably old anyway. I can start over with new numbers.

One happy camper here! *wide grin*

Wow, congratulations., BT. I can't even set a digital watch. I have to have my boyfriend set mine. It's just overwhelming trying to figure it all out. I can't imagine even trying to figure out how to change the battery. One question: how is it new fangled if it is 20 years old?

Watches... I have this thing about them....

I have had two... count em two temperature compensated altimiter watches. Now this dammed thing is so big that it looks like a golf ball on your arm. Whenever someone sees it, they're like what's with the watch?

So I got tired of paying $250.00 for a piece of plastic crap watch just to see how high I was going. My last watch strap broke and is long gone. So I bought a nice Nixon watch.

The strap went on it. It's irreplaceable, as it's leather and the leather is kind of built-in to the watch! Piss me off! It was the coolest watch! Now it's toast, just sitting here at my desk, staring at me, asking "why? why? why?". I spent $200.00 on that, and it only lasted 8 months.

Now I use a $20.00 crappy watch and it works fine. It tells me the time and that's that.

"how is it new fangled if it is 20 years old?"

Well... sheesh! I thought that this would be obvious to someone over 90 years old - like yourself... Heck! I'm over 100 years old... Why... back when I was a wee lad... all they had were these large pocket watches that hung on a gold chain and attached to a belt loop on the pants. (Ya ever wonder what that small pocket was for on blue jeans? Hint: It's called a 'watch pocket'.)
