Fay Wray Honored As Empire State Building Dims Lights
Aug 10, 2004
Entertainment
As an honor to Fay Wray, the lights of the Empire State Building were dimmed for 15 minutes Tuesday evening. She was the beautiful blonde, Ann Darrow, in the 1933 movie classic "King Kong."
Wray died in her sleep Sunday August 8th in her New York apartment.
She was 96.
As a tribute to the actress, the lights of the Empire State building were dimmed Tuesday evening from 9:30 to 9:45, Eastern time.
Born on September 15, 1907, in Alberta, Canada, her family moved to the United States when she was 3 years old.
She will always be remembered as the girl carried to the top of the Empire State building gently clutched in the hand of "King Kong."
She was also immortalized in two songs from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show": in the opening theme song...
Michael Rennie was ill
The Day the Earth Stood Still
But he told us where we stand
And Flash Gordon was there
In silver underwear
Claude Rains was The Invisible Man
Then something went wrong
For Fay Wray and King Kong
They got caught in a celluloid jam
Then at a deadly pace
It Came From Outer Space
And this is how the message ran...
Science fiction (ooh ooh ooh) double feature
Doctor X (ooh ooh ooh) will build a creature
See androids fighting (ooh ooh ooh) Brad and Janet
Anne Francis stars in (ooh ooh ooh) Forbidden Planet
Wo oh oh oh oh oh
At the late night, double feature, picture show
and in "Don't dream It, Be it"
Whatever happened to Fay Wray
That delicate satin draped frame
As it clung to her thigh
How I started to cry
Cause I wanted to be dressed just the same
Give yourself over to absolute pleasure
Swim the warm waters
Of sins of the flesh
Erotic nightmares beyond any measure
And sensual day-dreams
To treasure forever
Can't you just see it
Whoa-ho ohhh
Don't dream it, be it
Don't dream it, be it
Don't dream it, be it
Don't dream it, be it
Don't dream it, be it
Don't dream it, be it
Don't dream it, be it
